This review is based entirely on the service, which was beyond terrible. Our order was misplaced, and one of the staff passive-aggressively shamed me in front of everyone for checking in on our order. We were return customers, so we knew the drill – place your order, pay, and collect your order at the counter when your name is called – no table service. Paying upfront is likely part of the problem as there is no incentive for the staff to provide good service, even if the customer does give a tip, which we did. We expected a bit of a wait, especially on a summer Sunday afternoon (4:45 PM). After placing our orders (2), our friends (who ordered after us) were called when their food was ready (after about 15 minutes). No worries – I told them to start their meal and my partner to join them while I waited for our food; it couldn't be too much longer, right? Wrong. I waited another 15 minutes before asking how things were coming along, noting that our friends who had ordered after us had already received their food. The staff member just stared at me, looking confused, then served another customer, so I asked again after she had taken the new order. She replied that it would be up soon before scurrying away, and another lady returned to replace her. Another 10 minutes passed, and my partner returned to check in. Our friends had almost finished their meal by then, and we were still waiting, so this time, he asked and was told the same thing: "It will be up shortly," so we continued to wait. Another 6 mins passed, and one of our friends came in to check on us. They felt bad that we were still waiting while they had finished their meal. So we asked again, speaking to the lady who had come out to the front counter. Rather than answering us directly, though, she announced to the whole restaurant that there was about a 40-minute wait before inviting the next person up to place their order, stating are you ok with a 40-minute delay? Ok, cool, yeah, just letting you know because some people get really upset when their food isn't ready when they want it to be, glancing at me as she said it. At first, I wasn't sure if it was directed at me, but then she repeated this process with the next 5 or 6 customers, so there was no question; she was singling me out to shame me publicly. Other people waiting for their orders and seeing this play out commented as they collected their orders, feeling bad for how we were treated. One customer in particular, a local, approached us and said, I've never had or seen such bad service and apologized, stating that not everyone in Squamish is like that. In the end, another staff member found our order (pretty sure she found it in the little basket to the right of the kitchen window). Once found, it was pushed to the front of the line, but we still had to wait another ten or so minutes for our food to be ready, so, in the end, it was over 50 minutes of waiting, along with being treated horribly. I'm still shocked that...
Read moreUpdated review - I decided to give this place another try with my boyfriend, since their website looked revamped and it had been some time now since they've been open as the new Sunny Chibas. It was a MUCH better experience! They had the right amount of staff members this time. We ordered our food online so it was ready by the time we arrived. I ordered one piece of fried chicken again but made sure to ask for dark meat/chicken thigh. It was REALLY tasty and I enjoyed the sauces that came with it. The meat was juicy and the skin was crispy. I could tell that this was a freshly fried piece of chicken. I would definitely get it again! I also ordered a taco salad with chili beef. Great size and so many flavors in one. The restaurant decor follows a cool cartoon/sticker/light hearted theme. When you are waiting for your food outside they have a hilarious speaker system where they call your name out in a funny alien space like tone. We sat at a table right besides the speaker and were freaked out the first time we heard it, but it's a genius and funny idea. I will definitely be coming back when I am in the area!
Original review - First time here and also the LAST time here. First, I ordered a 1 piece chicken meal. You would think that the employees would warn their patrons ahead of time that if they order a combo, only diet coke is available since the other fountain drinks are out of order. Well they didn't. So we were forced to drink diet coke or pour ourselves water which we could have just gotten for free. Second, the piece of chicken they gave me was a tiny, extremely dry piece of chicken breast surrounded by a large plate of fries. The chicken at 7-11 tastes better and is half the price of what I paid!!
Forget this place and don't...
Read moreMan, I’m so upset with my experience at Sunny Chiba’s last night. Such a fall from grace. I remember going there in 2023 — it was such a cool experience: Wu-Tang Clan pumping through the speakers, beers on tap, and OMG the food was unbelievable.
So when I went back last night, I was hyped to show my friends this awesome spot. Sadly, the quality appears to have fallen off a cliff.
We walked in to no music, the place felt stale, and it honestly looked like a dump. Food was everywhere, plates and trash piled up.
When we finally got our food, I had the chicken quesadillas served with rice and beans. The quesadillas were fine (not $20 fine), the rice was stone cold, and OMG the beans... They looked and felt like they were made of plastic.
Me and the people I was with were laughing, saying they looked like they were made from the same plastic Little Tikes uses for their toys.
The rest of my crew’s food was fine, but pretty overpriced for what it was.
Oh — the other funny thing was we saw some of the back-of-house staff drop a plate in the kitchen, and two of them just stood there looking at each other like, “You pick it up.” — “Nah, I ain’t.”
Heavily disappointed with what’s happened to the place, especially since I’d been craving going back for two years. I hope the owners and management sort their stuff out — it’s going to be a shame if they let...
