My wife & I were looking for a new place to have breakfast and found Toast through an online search. The menu looked interesting and the prices reasonable, so we decided to give it a try.
We are so glad that we did!
The dining room is intimate (seats maybe 50 total) but open enough so you don't feel crammed into your seat. The decor is warm & inviting with a flatscreen tv (muted) and various prints hanging from the walls.
After being seated we were offered our choice of regular or dark roast coffee (a nice change). We both had the dark roast and found it to be very smooth, not in least bit bitter. The menu offers a wide variety of fare that should appeal to everyone. My wife settled on the "Full Irish / English" plate (primarily for the white & black puddings) with "Irish brown bread" while I had the "Apple and Cinnamon Pancakes". TIP: Don't make the same mistake I did by adding eggs & sausage. You get 3 but the pancakes are BIG & fluffy and should satisfy anyone's appetite on their own.
The plates arrived filled with healthy portions, visually appealing and exactly as ordered. The aroma & flavours did not disappoint. My pancakes had the apple shredded and throughout the batter, perfectly seasoned with cinnamon - it's there, but not overpowering so that it's all you taste. My wife (who grew up with homemade white & black puddings) raved about what she was served. We were later told Toast (opened by an immigrated Irish family) imports their puddings which, in my opinion, is perfect. If you want to serve the best you must source from the best, and if that means importing then so be it.
I had a taste of the homefries and Irish bread off my wife's plate. The bread had a nice rustic, nutty flavour while the homefries were golden and had a tasty seasoning (I forgot to ask about it). The great thing I found about the homefries was neither of us could find a piece that was over cooked. So often you get homefries that are plain, shrivelled and crunchy - not at Toast.
We noticed the daily specials included 2 kinds of scones. Although we were full we had to try them, so ordered one of each to take home. Both the "Lemon Poppyseed" and "Coconut with Fruit" were moist, fair sized and clearly homemade.
If there was to be a negative of our experience it was that the bottom of the lemon scone was a little over cooked. However, with the relaxed & amazing overall results of our first visit to Toast I'm not going to let that one minor issue affect my scoring.
5 out of 5 stars Toast ... well done! We are sure to return and make you a regular stop in...
Read moreI made an impulse decision to visit Toast in St. Albert, and I'm so glad I did! I ordered The Surfer Smoked, which comes with smoked salmon, red onion, capers, and dill hollandaise, served with homefried potatoes. Let me start with the hash browns—they were absolutely fantastic. Crispy, crunchy, and full of flavor, they were definitely a highlight of the meal.
The eggs Benedict was equally impressive. The smoked salmon really stood out, and the soft eggs were cooked to perfection—just the way I love them, with a perfect runny yolk. The presentation was also spot on, making it an all-around enjoyable dish. The hollandaise was very tasty, with just the right amount of dill, and the English muffin was toasted perfectly.
The atmosphere at Toast is welcoming and cozy, with a well-lit, clean space that adds to the overall experience. The service was top-notch, with friendly staff and food that came out quickly and piping hot.
I have just a few minor "complaints". The dish was a bit heavy on the onions, though not enough to make me want to remove them entirely. I would have liked a little more hollandaise, and for the price, I think a larger portion of hash browns would have been nice.
Despite these small "issues" (I wouldn't even call them issues, but I can't think of a different word), I 100% plan on returning. Toast delivered an amazing breakfast experience, and I can’t wait to come...
Read moreDidn't meet my expectations but still deserves 5 stars.
I went here with my young daughter because online I saw they had an apple cheddar crepe on their menu and I have been looking for places that have them. It was a cute place, nice atmosphere. It's cozy but they do their best to get as much seating in the unit as possible. The staff is also very friendly.
I didn't realize that the apple cheddar crepe would be what it was, I was expecting sliced apple and cheese inside. It was actually like an apple pie filling and cheese, topped with a caramel sauce. So it wasn't what I was expecting but honestly, you can taste the quality of the ingredients and you can see that they take care to prepare enjoyable meals so I couldn't be that disappointed. My daughter loved her meal as well and ate it all. We will definitely go back!
They don't have any colouring or anything for kids, so come prepared with something to keep kiddos occupied. We just doodled on a...
