Eggsmart — Restaurant in St. Catharines

We decided to have breakfast here on New Year’s Day. We arrived at about 12:45pm. The place was busy but not packed and there was no wait to find a seat. However, to our surprise, they had only 2 servers, 1 cook, and 2 helpers working for a large restaurant. To say the least, the service staff was clearly overwhelmed trying to get the orders to what appear to be easily 30 plus tables in this restaurant. It took our server about 20 minutes to get our orders; not because of incompetency but because there were only two servers. From this point, our meals came out 1 hour and 15 minutes later. In summary, from the time of sitting down at our table until our meals arrived, over 1.5 hours had passed; this was typical wait time for all customers who came in after us. We debated leaving but we had waited so long, and really too hungry at this point to start looking elsewhere. This was definitely not a wait staff issue as they were doing all the bussing and cleaning of the restaurant on top of serving customers. The cook was very slow from what we could see from our view of their open kitchen. This is definitely a management issue in that there is not enough staff to service the number of customers they serve, considering it is New Year’s Day, and the expectation is that, with breakfast crowd, it would be particularly busy.

Now onto our meals. When they finally arrived, we actually laughed at the amount of fruit we got; a piece of pineapple the size of a dime and one raspberry. We asked for a bit more fruit and we were given one extra raspberry. One of our four meals was cold but we dare not send it back because we didn’t want to wait again. The other three meals were warm and tasty.

Apparently, it’s a hit and miss with this place. I have been there previously and had better service/quality that we experienced...

This has become a regular hangout for my family. Our food is always excellent! It's not cheap, but it is good value for the type of restaurant that it is. The selection is amazing!

We usually get outstanding service here. The servers regularly offer to help us out by washing our toddler dishes. We've even been offered things like a complimentary fruit plate for our daughter when our breakfast order was held up. It breaks my heart to read about people getting subpar service here, because we have always been treated so well. It does happen though. This morning, our service was uncharacteristically subpar. Everyone was really friendly, but parts of our order failed to show up, t showed up without hot water, coffee service was slow, and we got spilled on twice. If this had been our first experience, we would have been pretty upset. I get it. It's really busy on Sunday mornings, but it might be that someone needs to take a look at the process and find ways to improve.

The front seems really clean to me. My daughter is always throwing things on the floor, and I've never noticed any issue when I go to pick them up. Unfortunately, the women's bathroom smells like mildew. I know this because I sometimes go in with my wife to help her with a diaper change for our daughter. The men's is fine, though it doesn't have a changer as far as I know. Tough luck for the women though. It would make me really uncomfortable using that facility on a regular basis.

My wife loves brunch. We have tried a few places, and eggs Mart has proven to be the best for quality value...

Running commentary.....first time here....we were seated in under 30 seconds on a SATURDAY...Place was PACKED.

Our server, Mattie who is on her 4th shift so far has been fantastic. She came quickly to our table with a smile....gave us another moment to look at the very EXTENSIVE breakfast menu...

We start with a water and I had asked her if they had pulp free OJ and if it was SIMPLY ORANGE. She said she believes so. She came back VERY quickly and said it was actually Minute Maid. I ordered a apple juice...very good.

She took our order and refilled my wifes water in very timely fashion.

My wife ordered the Eggs Bendict with smoked Salmon and Jersey Shore Fries. I ordered the 3 eggsmart breakfast with peameal bacon. Eggs sunny side up.

The meal came fast and HOT. My whole wheat toast was PERFECT. I think it was D'taliano.

My wife bites into her eggs benedict and immediately says, "OH WOW!".

Both meals were hot, flavourful and served with professional courtesy by Mattie.

The Jersy Shore Fries were extremely good.

Place was clean. Atmosphere nice.

As with ANY establishment, a open door can bring in guests of a different kind. We had Walter, a little fly who minded his own business and just stayed put. Folks, it really does happen. I seen flies in high end places and dives. But this little guy was pleasant and did not interfere with our fantastic time here...
