I've been ordering food from Touch of India since early 2003. I rarely dine in, almost always order take out. While the food isn't 100% consistent, in the vast majority of cases it's been extremely well prepared and tasty. The item I find I most often have issues with is the onion bhaji either being over or under cooked.
I've had the curry, korma, dhansak, rogan josh, dupiaza, vindaloo, madras, bhoona, Jhal fry and Kashmiri variably with lamb, beef or chicken as well as a few veggie dishes, I try to vary my order because so much of the food is delicious. Probably the Lamb Rogan Josh and Bhoona Chicken are my fave orders, Beef Dhansak does very well too. Sometimes a hot vindaloo is the best for what ails you, and they can make it very hot if you want it. The jhal fry, vindaloo and madras usually come the hottest when you specifically say "very hot".
I would recommend if you want take out, ordering on a Sunday evening when it's slower. Because all items are made from scratch, ordering around 6pm on a Friday night is often a recipe for a very long wait. Don't say you weren't warned. Still, you could do worse than popping down to the Merchant Ale House for a nice cold pint while you wait!
Naan bread and chapati are always terrific, the samosas are very filling so don't order more than one per person and even one per two people would suffice. The prawn pathia is also a great app dish.
There is a decent selection of alcoholic beverages if you choose to dine in, but again I'd recmmend going off peak hours if you're even remotely in a rush.
Very nice staff, after 13 years I will continue to give Touch of India my take out business when looking for Indian food, best Indian I've had this side of Bombay Chutney in Burlington and Bombay Bhel up...
Read moreWalked in and seemed like a ghost town. Two wateriness, one was OK and knew a lil Hindi the second didn't even smile to greet us or was upset that we were there or know any Hindi. While looking at the menu I asked my waitress(who was OK and smiled) what was good in there veg selection, she had no clue what was good what was good in their restaurant. My fiance ordered the lamb makhani and I aloo mutter, rice and chapati.
While waiting for our order not one came by to ask us for anything or if we were OK. It was awkward enough sitting there in silence with no background music on.
Finally food arrived both dishes looked almost the same and very small quantities. The lamb was too chewy with spicy but with bland gravy and so was my aloo mutter. I had to add in extra salt and pepper to eat it. The gravy for both the dish tasted the same. Because the lamb wasn't enough I ordered butter chicken too and it was just OK.
The only good thing that we liked was the chapati.
What ever we did not eat we asked them to pack it up for us, and so they did but dumped the aloo mutter, butter chicken and chapati in one container with no divisions.
I personally would not go there or recommend this place to anyone.
Honestly, $55 wasted (for 2) on poor quality and less quantity of food and service with no knowledge of what is good in their own...
Read moreI went here the other night after craving Indian food because of the high ratings it had online. I was quite disappointed though... the service was good but the food was a different story. The onion bhaji we ordered as an appetizer was burnt and that's all you could taste and the mulligatawny soup we also ordered consisted mostly of broth and was very salty. For entrees we chose the tandoori chicken and the lamb vindaloo. The tandoori chicken was very good but the salad that came with it consisted only of lettuce and onions and much of the lettuce had turned brown around the edges. The lamb vindaloo was red, not a rich and dark brown like I'm used to, and tasted much like a boring barely spicy tomato sauce. I've always been taught that a good vindaloo should make you sweat.
I have been to many Indian restaurants including Diwa in Guelph (which is by far my favourite), Masala Bay in Kitchener (also amazing), Koh-i-Noor in Waterloo (2nd favourite), and Kismet in Waterloo, etc. Although I have no yet been to India I feel like I have a pretty good idea of what the food should taste like. Anyways, don't...
