Salem Chapel British Methodist Episcopal Church — Attraction in St. Catharines

Drove to Canada this weekend. Came to Salem Church to see the history of it, a place where Harriet Tubman brought slaves for shelter. Got there only to find it closed for the day. After looking around outside and made up in our minds that we were just gonna be content with taking pics outside...Rochelle (I hope I spelled her name right) one of the tour guides, saw us looking around from another building, came over and let us in. She allowed us to tour the building ourselves. It was such an experience seeing and being in the place where underground railroad slaves were sheltered. The church has a lot of pics and artifacts, dealing with the church itself and the history behind Harriet Tubman and her involvement. If you're ever in Ontario Canada, you DEFINITELY NEED to...

Amazing black and Christian history right here in Ontario! While the part of town has clearly seen better days, the chapel is well maintained. Lots of signs explaining the history of the church, its role in the community, and the connection with Harriet Tubman. A pretty close walk to downtown St. Catharines, it's certainly worth the visit even if you don't...
