Yaman Plus Restaurant — Restaurant in St. Catharines

I was looking for an post workout meal, and was craving some shawarma. Did a Google search, and came upon Yaman Restaurant. It had one of the highest rating in St Catharines, so I decided to check it out. From the outside it looks a little run down, and I think they are currently making some sort of renovations inside. I was greeted by a gentleman who was friendly, and also was in conversation with a local customer. I checked out the menu, and they had your basic plates and wraps, and some other options. I opted for the chicken shawarma plate, which is my go to. I waited about 5-7 minutes for my food to be ready. I decided to dine in, there's about 2 small tables seating for 2, it was early afternoon, and the only people there were, the gentleman serving the food, a local customer, and I. To my surprise, i got the food on a plate, not Styrofoam, or paper, but an actually ceramic plate, he also gave me a fork and spoon. The fork wasn't the cleanest, so I used the spoon instead. It didn't hamper my experience though, the food was amazing! It was a good amount of and very tasty. I will definitely visit this location again when I'm in the area. I'll try the take out option second time around...

Based on the reviews, I had high expectations for this place, and was looking forward to eating there after a long day at the beach. But unfortunately it didn’t meet my expectations. Haven’t seen any generous portions!! There was barely chicken and salad in our plates. Our group all looked at each other and made the same comments about “planning to go eat somewhere else afterwards because we’ll still be hungry”. I should have taken a picture of the plates and compared them with the review photos on Google!! But I got distracted by a phone call and forgot. Disappointed and won’t go back! I eat a lot in St. Catherine’s on the way back from the beach or Niagara on the Lake, and was hoping I’d add this to my favorite places in town. Recently moved to area and thought I’d check out this lil spot that’s caught my eye - so glad I did!! Not only is the food AMAZING, the lovely Kay behind the counter was so welcoming! I had the Rasta Pasta and omg, it was so amazing and so fresh! All the ingredients were super fresh, the pasta was cooked perfectly. Not only that, while waiting, she offered me some jerk chicken, on the house to try, which 🤩 again, bomb! Then when I said I had a 6 year old, she offered up some of her bbq chicken, for him to try, on the house.

Don’t walk - you gotta run to this place. Her food is amazing! I’m waiting on the homemade beef patties to make their grand entrance!
