Gillys is everything. The menu is what you'd expect from a pub, but better.

I had wonton nachos and I will never be able to eat chip nachos ever again. The texture was otherwordly, the toppings (chicken, green pepper, onions) were evenly distributed, and the sauces were savoury. The cheese qas perfectly melted.

My husband had potato skins (amazing) and jerk chicken wings (jumbo sized!) We took 4 wings home and they tasted even better the second time; pretty unheard of for pub chicken wings but the flavour was unreal.

The 4 kids ordered regular nachos, a cheese pizza with caesar salad, and a chicken parm sandwich not a kids menu option. Two kids split the sandwich and the kitchen delivered it on two plates with the fries divided--not necessary but always appreciated. Nary a crumb was leftover.

Our beer--Guinness and "the hoppiest thing you have"--was poured perfectly. I don't remember the name of the hoppy beer but it was brewed locally making it extra delicious.

The service was excellent, friendly, and prompt. Our server went above and beyond to make us feel at home.

The atmosphere is inviting, and I loved the little things. They have an old video game, a stained glass mosaic, palm trees, and the coolest fish art piece. Plenty of pool tables to keep you all night and a juke box.

The washrooms were super clean. A thing I really appreciate when travelling with kids.

The downside is I was visiting Stratford and I wish I could be a daily patron....

We have been back in Stratford for almost two months, since then we have visited Gilly's almost 20 times and service has been great.... tonight however, (07/07/24) the service SUCKED! It took 30 mins to get a drink order, because the waitress and bartender were too busy flirting and sucking up to a table of 6 men and 8-10 women for tips. We generally leave between $20 &$30 tips for our meals. Tonight's service was just HORRIBLE. We ordered fish and chips and got a sliver of lemon not even big enough for a rye and ginger with lemon drink. Over all considering not going back again due to poor service, ( the food was amazing) The service was rude and almost non-existent. Definitely put a cramp on date night. We are not so much as upset as we are disappointed

After posting this we returned and received an apology and we're bought a free desert. VERY IMPRESSED with the response, and will DEFINITELY recommend again

EDIT : We returned to Gilly's a few days later, we were hot and thirsty, and passing by. So we stopped in and had a drink and an appetizer. We were served immediately, and received an apology for the other night, as well as a complementary desert. We were so impressed by how this was fixed so quickly, that we have been back more often than ever. Thank you for renewing my faith in proper customer service. Will definitely be telling...

THIS IS MY ORIGINAL REVIEW(originally gave it 2 stars on 1st visit) AND BELOW THIS IS MY 2ND VISIT (which made me alter this to 4 stars): Ordered a pulled pork sandwich and draft beer. The sandwich barely had any meat in it, which is a sin specifically for pulled pork. The bread was terrible and mushy. The guy who was our server was ridiculously slow in seeing us, from the very beginning to when he asked for our orders for drinks, food, and finally, to bringing us the bill. The place was not that busy!! Will not come back.......

EDIT UPDATE - Did correspond with the manager and they were very courteous and did apologize and says that they addressed the concerns with the kitchen and wanted to pinpoint who the server was so that my feedback can be addressed to them. They sent me a gift certificate so that I can give them another try. I accepted. I appreciated that the manager does actually care. A lot of places, when they get bad reviews on Google, either ignore them or even respond and get defensive which never looks good.

2ND VISIT on May 18th: ordered the Gillys platter and shared it with spouse. Was really good and filling. Was not too long of a wait to receive it either. Had a different server (female). Much more attentive and nice and did bring the bill more promptly than the last person. Certainly willing to go back again in...

My wife and I, Friday Date Day. Stratford this time. After the Theatre, a matinee. We went downtown, took in some stores.. The restaurant my wife had been to, was jammed packed for at least 3 more hours, we asked an employee at the Scottish shop, and were told of Gillies. An easy (slow) walk, for a girl facing knee surgery and we found the place. It was quite full too, yet there were like 2 tables available. Maybe 3. Turned into an excellent choice to find a delicious meal. Friendly helpful staff - from the greeter to the guy serving us. Ask for Curtis, he made me feel like we were friends who hadn't yet met, asked perceptive questions which showed him to give insightful answers; and there was no intrusion to the conversation between my wife and I, he earned a tip... The tables are large, with space around them, I did not feel crammed into place like Sardines, i didn't feel like I was eavesdropping in on my neighbours. The music was 👍, a great mix. I don't just recommend this restaurant. I plan to return.

Got the Gillys platter which comes with cauliflower bites, Mac bites, wings, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, dips and potato skins (have bacon on them so make sure to ask for no bacon if u don’t eat that). Everything was good, came rather quickly and they even bought us more potato skins when we said we couldn’t eat bacon. Free refills for diet cokes and pool table only cost $2 to use! Really cute spot with lots of tables and good food, good service and good vibes even in the middle of the day on a Thursday. They also had half priced burgers on Thursday so I’d definitely recommend that!
