I used to be a regular at Denji before they changed owners and their quality dropped. I haven't been back in years but drove by and decided to give them a try again today. I ordered 2 specialty rolls (Salmon Bomb and Denji Roll) and my order was ~$40 dollars. I asked for extra soy sauce when I was leaving, because I love soy sauce with my sushi. The waitress taking my order told me she put 3 packets of soy sauce inside and didn't want to give me any more. I didn't argue with her. When I got home and opened my order, there was zero soy sauce. Not a single packet. Who eats sushi without soy sauce? I called back and the same waitress offered me $5 off my next order. Five dollars off a $40 dollar order of sushi that fit into one small take out container because the rolls were so small (anywhere else they'd use two containers, one for each special roll). Insulting honestly. I won't be coming back. If you're in Langley looking for sushi, there are better options who value your business more. Sean would be so sad to see this review.
*EDIT: Just noticed their reply to my review:
"you asked her if there was a soy pack in your order. She answered that she put 3 packs in the bag, since she thought she always put soy, napkins and chopsticks together for every to-go order."
No, this isn't what happened. It was over a month ago but I remember the interaction crystal clear. I called and explained very clearly, so you guys should know this too.
I did not ask if there was soy sauce, (I assumed there already was because of course any sushi place would give soy-sauce with take out orders.) I asked her, "could I trouble you for some extra soy sauce please?" and her response was that "there is already 3 in the bag" which is why I explained initially in my review that I wasn't going to argue with her based on her reply. I gave you guys a chance to make this soy-sauce less meal right but you want to offer $5 which is laughable. I already said no to that on the phone no need to offer it in the review too.
I never spoke to management, I was only able to speak to the waitress who took my order when I called back to explain the issue. (Perhaps that's the same person in charge of reply to these reviews?) It's funny because, while I was sitting down waiting for my order to be made, I watched the waitress who rejected my request for extra soy sauce attempt to throw paper into the garbage can by the till, and then not pick it up after she missed. Either she didn't notice she missed or she didn't care enough to pick it up. I wouldn't be surprised if such a worker lied to you guys about how the conversation went but that's another can of worms.
"I'm pretty sure that If you asked for extra soy sauce at that time, she would be happy to provide for sure."
Well that's exactly what happened and I'm pretty sure she was not happy to provide for sure she was quick to tell me she had already put 3...
Read moreWe ate here on Saturday evening. The start was pleasant enough, being seated in a booth with a view. We ordered gyoza (pan fried) and tempura appys. They were both wonderful At that point, my wife and I ordered the mains, the thinking being that the prep time would allow us to enjoy the appys. The chicken teriyaki landed within a minute and it's presentation was quite off-putting. The meal looked like it had been shovelled off the back of a truck. It's completely dark meat with no option to upcharge to white meat, regrettably. My meal, an aburi nigiri platter arrived much later with our servier noting that it's almost closing time (i.e., hurry up). Did it have to be this way? At no time did our server ask if the food was to our liking or check on our drinks and water, despite them being place at the front of the table (hint, hint). Towards the end of the meal she reminded us of closing time again, with a "hurry the hell up" look. The bill arrived and we started to review the charges but she wanted us to complete the transaction right then. The whole situation reeked of "the bum's rush", served with a side of attitude and additional charges for styrofoam takeaway boxes. We settled with a tip reflecting the whole experience (still too much imo) and left. It was still well before closing time. Our house is within a block of their business but we won't be returning anytime soon after this...
Read moreEdited on September 22, 2022: We used to love this place until now. Today, there was a young guy at the cashier that I had never seen before. He had ear piercings and I think his name was Jeromy. He made me never go there again and perhaps never have sushi again! I was sitting right in front of him, when he picked his nose, both nostrils, one after another. Then he continued to use his hand to go all around his month as if he had something sticky on his face. And he was not even trying to hide or turn around. I don't think he could even understand how gross this was for someone who works at the cashier and hands in people's pick-up orders.
I could not finish my meal after that and I will never go back there again. I love this sushi place. Whenever I do not feel like cooking, I order take-out from them. I just wished they still had free delivery for orders over $50. Staff is great and super fast! Food is great...
