I've been to this location twice. The first time I went, the two girls working there were unfriendly, and rude. I asked them what their sweet sauce was like as I saw it as an option on the menu. The reply I got was' "It's tastes sweet." Well, knowing it tastes sweet, as that's literally the name of the sauce, I asked for further description of it, like is it like a sweet and sour, a garlic sweet or curry or what. The response I got was an eye roll and she proceeded to say something to the other girl she was working with in another language and they both laughed. Then she says to me, "It's just sweet." and she rolled her eyes again. I was horrified and embarrassed as there were also other customers in line. Despite my better judgement, my husband and I ended up getting a beef donair and chicken donair respectively and took it home to eat. When I got home, I realized I had been charged extra for sweet sauce which I didn't even end up getting since I didn't know what it would taste like since the only description I got was that it was sweet. Not cool, but I was so put off by those girls' behaviour, I really didn't want to go back to the store to argue over the extra charge.
Over a year later, I decide to give it another chance since I do live in the neighbourhood and I thought maybe my experience was a one off. This time it was a man working and he was very professional and on the friendly side. This time I got the sweet sauce which had a bit of a garlic taste to it, similar, although not the same, to the Halifax style sweet donair sauce for those of you that are familiar. The rest of the donair was not tasty at all. The beef was pulled out of some metal container of hot water or steam. I am not sure how long it had been shaved off the spit, and it tasted boiled not grilled. The pita was dry with areas that had hardened and it was not warmed up. So while I really wanted to like this place, I will not...
Read moreI had an awful experience at this donair shop. I ordered a chicken wrap after a long, exhausting day in the heat, and there were two workers available—yet neither of them could properly wrap a chicken shawarma, which is one of the most basic and frequently ordered items on the menu.
They failed over three times, wasting pita after pita, until I finally felt bad for them and asked for my order to just be put into a bowl instead. Even then, they were stingy with the sauce. I had clearly requested no cucumbers, yet the majority of my vegetables were cucumbers.
Not only was my simple request ignored, but my wrap order was turned into a bowl, the fresh shawarma experience was ruined, and they didn’t even cut the chicken in front of me—it was pre-stored, taking away from the entire point of ordering shawarma fresh.
They also wasted food by throwing away three pita breads due to their mistakes. And to top it all off, when I was upset and ready to leave, the door was locked. Who keeps a door locked during business hours?
I never leave reviews, but this experience genuinely angered me. This place needs to hire staff who actually know how to prepare the food they serve, respect customer requests, and create a decent dining experience. I absolutely do not...
Read moreWent in on Friday evening around 7.30 pm. When we opened the door, there was a girl who was mopping the floor. Right away, she gave us an unwelcome look. Without saying a word of greeting to us, she went to wash her hands (did not use soap). She was hard to understand. We were able to choose 3 sauces (A - garlic, B - hot sauce, and C - tzatziki). Rather than having A, B and C, we asked if we could have B, C and C (don't like garlic). She told us in an abrupt way that there would be an extra charge. Later, I spoke to her about how I felt about her customer service skills. It was her co-worker who was the one that apologized. We brought the food back home because we didn't want to eat in and have to see her. There were some small, hard objects in the food and the meat was a little dry. Have had good experiences at the Donair Affair at Scott Road and 64th Avenue. This is definitely not a good way to retain customers at a new business. Will...
