I had the most bizarre, horrific experience here tonight. I arrived and sitting in a corner was a man loudly talking about not having drank any alcohol for four days. Initially, I thought nothing of it, thinking as he was sitting at the bar, that he was just a loud client. Shortly after, he got up walked into the kitchen and began berating his staff, cursing at them, and yelling at our server, Alex. A couple came in and after asking the man to please stop yelling, he told them they could leave. At this point, I assumed he was the owner because I couldn't understand how anyone else would have the gall to treat staff and employees this way. After experiencing more people leaving and more yelling, I finally asked for my food to go because I didn't want to be in that environment anymore, it was stressful, unpleasant, and incredibly chaotic. At one point, because the man was yelling at our server, someone from the kitchen had to deliver our food! He walks up to us and asks us if we're leaving because of the ambiance, and I said yes. That as a victim of domestic violence I simply couldn't sit around and listen to people being yelled at, that's not what I go to a restaurant for. He screamed at us that he was not an owner but worked for "them" (who them was, we have no idea). He then proceeded to tell my partner and I that he didn't want to feed us so he'd be returning our money. He then continued to yell at our sever, Alex, that Alex was the reason he looked bad. We rushed to defend our server, who was nothing but professional in the face of so. much. verbal. abuse, and who had not said anything at all about the treatment he was receiving. The man then screamed he was taking $100 from his pocket to pay us back, but we left the money on the table because it felt icky to take it, especially because we had no idea what was happening.
Long story short: we paid $75 to not finish our drinks, eat one appetizer each, and never be given our dinner because the owner, or whoever he was, didn't want to give us our food. We'll be contesting the charges with our bank, but it was a rude, disgusting way to treat customers. He treated everyone poorly, and seemed to either be an owner or related to an owner or something because I have no idea how ANYONE could be SO RUDE to staff AND clients without consequences. We were severely worried that our server was going to be fired despite having done nothing wrong. As a tourist to the area, I was completely in shock.
EDITED TO ADD: As you can see by the comment below, the lies continue. I called back a few days later and found out from the person who picked up the phone that the yelling man was in fact the owner and that this is just the way he talks to staff. I don't know the waiter as I'm not from the area. But the manipulation, lies, and gaslighting are more red flags for abuse. A person who can't take responsibility for their actions isn't worth trying to reason with. Are me and the other person who posted about the same day (we witnessed this woman leaving and she then posted her own review) both related too? I hope you get help because you very clearly need it. Bless the people who work for you. I can't imagine what it's like to...
Read moreCan I just say our experience was not great. My friends all got good food and one of my friends even claimed that their salad was the best thing she ever tried which is why I will give this at least a 2. The lost stars are for my order and for our experience. I ordered a meal that came and was completely soggy and tasted wierd. When we got our food served we all started eating. I had a bite and couldn’t figure out was was wrong with it. The guy came up to us once and asked how our food was to which we all said good. I just shook my head because I didn't know if I liked it or not with one taste. I also HATE telling people the food was bad and usually will eat it and not say anything. But I had to make an exception with this. After taking a couple more bites I realized it was not good so I didn’t touch it again. My friend told me not to call the waitress until after we were all done just because it looked like they were getting pretty busy and we could just inform them at the end about what happened. When the waitress came around and asked I let her know that I did not like my meal and that I did not eat it at all, I also asked for our checks. She took my food back and afterwards she came back and gave me my check stating that I need to pay for my food. We were all a little taken aback because I didn’t eat my food at all. She told me she could box it up for me but why would I want to take it to go if I didnt like the taste? I just sat there and asked why I have to pay for the food that I a) didn’t like and b) didn’t eat. When the manager came, he made me feel so bad about everything. He started talking loudly and as we were leaving people were looking our way and it was sooo uncomfortable. He ended up not charging me but at this point I think I should’ve just paid and walked out because he made such a big deal about it. We left and we all agreed not to ever come back here because of the...
Read moreKin Thai is top notch Thai food. The owner of the restaurant is always very welcoming and friendly. The waitstaff are fantastic, always pleasant and on top of things. They even know our go to order which is a nice touch.
The interior is small and cozy, decor modern. The restaurant including restrooms are always clean.
While I admit I haven't tried many dishes on the menu having settled on my favourites and frequently ordering the same thing, everything I've had has been amazing and consistently so. The things I've seen other tables ordering also look delicious. The Vegetarian Pad Thai is absolutely the best I've ever had (I've been to a lot of Thai places as it's one of my favourite cuisines) and the yellow curry very flavourful! Spring rolls are fantastic and I also highly recommend the chicken satay which has an incredible dipping sauce. While I can't remember exactly which stir fried dishes I've tried I do know I enjoyed them all.
When eating with people who enjoy spicy food we all agree that level four is the prefect balance of delicious heat while still being able to taste the wonderful flavours of the food.
When I go with people who like less heat at around level 1-2 the food is still very enjoyable as the flavours still really shine even without the spicy heat; at other Thai restaurants I've food to be disappointing in flavours when you take away the spicy heat.
If you haven't been to Kin Thai, it really is a must visit. But be prepared, at popular dinner times it is often crowded with a wait for a table. Kin Thai offers a great lunch special menu so that can be a really good...
