So, i'm always looking for Gluten Friendly options at Restaurants from an intolerance and i am usually highly uneasy with trying new places. I also don't drive around.
So i was on Skip, and usually on Skip, all the good gluten friendly options are closed after 8PM for delivery. Made an order at about 9:30pm and i was ready for it to be sloppy or something along that line.
Totally wrong, this place is pretty awesome. They clearly label allergies on their menu. I got a Chef's Sizzler and a side salad, even although Skip sorta jerked me around and the food sat to get a little colder than wanted -- the flavors were impressive.
I eat a good decent bit of Indian food and am used to people not seasoning their rice and relying on the main meal to give flavor. Their rice is fantastic, even slightly cold. The Cumin, Cardamon is there.
The side salad came basically as a full course size salad at most places, and the Sizzler plate i got with Paneer was honestly delicious. I do not believe their Fries are Gluten Friendly, but i also did not confirm so i gave it to my friend who commented that the Fries too, were very well seasoned with Chili and a seemingly hand-made breading.
Don't be afraid of the prices, the quantities are well sized and they clearly care quite a bit about the quality of the food. They didn't even cheap out on the take-out packaging, (They're buying good quality napkins, reinforced rope-handle bags and taking the time to mark each box with whats in it.) and it's these sort of tiny details that impressed me that a lot of Skip places... Well, they skip.
I'll have to come stop in sometime, i can imagine the foods even better piping hot on a sizzler plate. Definitely...
Read moreNice spot! Pleasantly surprised with the food. I wanted to sit on the patio however, it was reserved for a different party. The patio looks like it would be a nice placed to sit in the summer. We walked in without a reservation and we were immediately seated in a big red booth! We started off with appetizers and also ordered a few main dishes.
Gol gappe shots- the presentation was so cute! I actually liked these. I’m not a big gol gappe person. I don’t hate them but I don’t particularly like them. But these were good. The water that they were served with was on the sweeter side vs spicy.
Chili chicken tikka- this was really good. It wasn’t very spicy and the chicken was extremely soft and tender.
Butter chicken- this was probably one of the best butter chicken dishes I’ve had in North America. The butter chicken dishes I’ve had tend to be overly sweet which I don’t enjoy. This was the perfect balance between sweet and tangy. I could definitely order this again.
Malai Kofta- this was ok. The gravy was a bit sweeter than what im used to. The kofta itself was really good, it was nice and soft.
Tandoori roti- nothing special, very typical roti.
Garlic naan- again nothing special in my opinion. I thought the naan was actually a bit thinner instead of being a bit more “fluffy.”
Kids meal- we ordered the cheese pizza which came with fries. Nothing special. Other choices included chicken nuggets or grilled cheese.
We didn’t order any dessert because nothing really stood out to me. Overall the food was pretty good and the service was really great. I would definitely recommend this place if you’re in the mood for good north...
Read moreMediocre food and bad service. We revisited the place few weeks ago hoping that the food would be as nice as when they first opened. As soon as we entered and despite a reservation the host mentioned we would have to order all courses at one go and the kitchen closed in 20 minutes. This was before we were even greeted or directed to our table. Our server then said we had 40 minutes to order and there was no rush? We ordered 4 appetizers, 2 drinks and 5 mains - one appetizer (cauliflower) and 3 mains were actually made well. Gol gappa shots were made only in tamarind water, were excessively sweet and the puri itself was stale and had lost its crunch. When we asked to get more spicy water on the side we were actually given an entirely new cocktail style drink of the exact same water with just more black pepper. The paneer seemed fresh out of the fridge and cold and a hard on the inside. Rogan Josh and biryani were made well, as was their indochinese sizzler. We were told the drunken prawns would be in a creamy garlic sauce but it came with only cheese, lack of umami and very dry. The fish sizzler came extremely salty. Throughout the service nobody attended the table and the servers needed to be chased down to refil water. About halfway through our dining experience all the music was shut off and they were cleaning and sweeping as we were still dining. Our server was polite but a bit ignorant about almost any questions we had. The other host working that night was out right rude and itching to end her shift. We were hungry and travelled a long way to enjoy undercooked sub standard food and service. An overall overpriced...
