My tried and true strategy of judging a sushi place is by ordering some of the simplest rolls in order to check out the fundamentals of the kitchen staff. For this place, I ordered the negitoro roll, unagi roll, and chopped scallop roll - each one with its own flaws. Negitoro roll - This is meant to be chopped/minced tuna mixed with very finely chopped green onions, and sometimes with oil to add fattiness. What I got was essentially a chunk of tuna in the same fashion as you'd get in a tuna roll, coupled with very roughly chopped scallions that make for a very terrible combination. Unagi roll - There was barely any eel in there, it was mostly just cucumbers. For the few very thin slices of eels in there, there was a ton of fins/scales to ruin the rolls. Chopped scallop - The failures of the last two rolls I get, this one is weird. First of all there's very little sauce and flavor to be mixed with the scallops. Second, the actual roll pieces themselves contain very few scallop pieces. Third, for some odd reason they just dumped a glob of scallops and tobiko over the roll segments. I don't know if it's the cook being inexperienced and can't stuff the pre-portioned scallops into the roll or something else. The taste was bland and the presentation was, like the roll, a steaming pile. And as seen in the 2nd zoomed photo, there's a tiny piece of lint stuck on one of the scallop pieces. It's not enough to gross me out but it just takes away points when the food is already subpar. Cost & Final Pitfall My takeout bill was $21, and I declined an additional $0.25 bag fee for this one tiny tray of food (which the cashier slapped on without even asking me first). This pricing, to me, is the biggest pitfall of such a subpar sushi place. For the same price or less, you can have quite decent sushi from T&T, merely a block away. There is absolutely no reason to come here over T&T as it's not a sit-down restaurant anyway. In order to stand out here, a place like this needs to excel in at least one of these areas: - Service, which, as a "quick takeout" spot there's little to speak of, and the cashier automatically adding on the bag fee left a bad taste in my mouth (albeit probably stronger tasting than the sushi they served). - Food quality - not much to do about this one without getting new kitchen staff - Price/quantity - yeah good luck lol

I review kindly, but I struggle with this place. I thought this was a restaurant, but this is more like a takeaway food establishment. You place your order from the front counter, when your order is ready, you pick it up from the counter. The food comes in plastic trays that I believe you are expected to dispose of in a trash area by the door. When I placed my order, there is a tipping option that you can decline, but I believe options gratuity option go higher than 20%. Food was OK but based on the price point, service, gratuity options and a wood bench that you don’t really want to sit on too long, there are similar places where you will get full service, you order your food from the menu at the table, food is is brought to your table and when you’re done they clean the table for you and really good quality food, I don’t mind leaving a 20% gratuity if not more for these type of places. One good example would be Sushi and Roll on King George, a few minutes drive from this establishment. This may be my first and last, unless service improves. Condiments are also extra charge, which you would typically find free from restaurants.

5/5 Food Presentation 5/5 Cleanliness 3/5 Sushi Taste 3/5 Value Gave this spot a try while the wife stepped into Save-On. While they do have a wide variety of sushi, their selection for sushi combos (trays) is wanting. Ordered the Street Box #1, and it was well packaged/presented in a small pizza box. The location is spotless and brand new. One side has bar-counter style seating with high chairs, and the other has 4 tables with a long bench against wall. Staff was nice for our first visit, the chefs welcomed me aloud when I walked in. Unfortunately, we found the food taste to be just 'ok'. Have definitely tasted better at Sushi and Roll, or Izumo Sushi near by. The Wings were a little over-cooked, and they load up bland and plain Edamame as filler. The 'Special Sauces' were Hot Sauce, Chipotle Mayo, Honey Garlic, and Ranch. So nothing special here. It would be nice to see more sushi combos (trays) that don't compose of novelty filler veggies, sauces, and 'deep fried sushi'.
