Came on a Tuesday morning for what we were hoping to be a pleasant breakfast experience, our order of sandwich and waffles came out 45 minutes after we ordered. We were only lucky enough to have a small extra time to eat before leaving for work but an hour of wait time prior to eating was not expected. By this time we had to ask to confirm if our food was still coming out and was informed then that there’s only 1 chef behind the line.as much as we appreciate the apologetic behaviour it was hard to watch multiple people (there were only 2 tables along us) which meant it wasn’t very busy also complain about their food and wait time.
We got asked multiple times if we wanted drinks from the menu to order but we said no because we didn’t need to. After waiting 45 mins, eating out food halfway through then she offered a complimentary drink. Kind gesture but again, at that point it wasn’t going to make much of a difference since we already finished eating at that point (she offered to go) coffee was okay and matcha was very pale but again it was complimentary nonetheless we took our drinks as she was insisting
Our server was a a bit uncomfortable to watch with the way she was handling the situation and they way she spoke to us seemed like there’s not a lot of customer business experience behind its. Especially for a middle-high price point restaurant.
Food- sandwich was bland and nothing special about it, meat was dry and not much flavour (for an $18 sandwich that’s how thin the protein portion was) Waffles were covered in pistachio paste/spread from top and middle that there was no balance between the waffles and the pistachio. It’s a bit hard to see on the beginning photo but the top and inside of the waffle was so heavy in pistachio. Wayy to sweet and overwhelming. As a sweet tooth myself I found that the pistachio drizzles were overpowering the waffles so so much it was VERY sweet
I was really looking forward on a brunch date with my partner especially on this new developing area in surrey but it was quite disappointing. Just...
Read moreUpdate: visited this establishment again & based on my second time I've had to revise my rating. While for the most part their food is still delicious (I ordered the mushroom toast again & the udon carbonara was well enjoyed). The Pork Belly Benedict in my opinion could use some improvement. First when thinking of pork belly I think of thick unctuous morsels. Their version is 3 very small pieces of thick cut bacon. Their pave potato is underseasoned & underwhelming. Their coffee is very acidic.
What gets me though is they have a 2 hour seating limit, but they don't tell you that until your nearing the end of your welcome. The first time I was there they mentioned they had another reservation for the table. Fair enough, it's a Sunday they're busy. However when we left there was no one waiting for a table. They did the same thing to us today (Friday) when there were at least 3 other tables sitting empty & no one waiting for a table. My partner ordered another drink & just shortly after receiving it we were told we had 15 mins left as they had another reservation. So he felt rushed to drink it. So beware. If you're looking for a place to catch up with friends/family note whether or not they're busy, the will ask you to leave at the 2 hour mark with an excuse of another reservation.
Vancouver quality food now in Surrey!
Came here for a girlfriend's brunch date. The atmosphere is fresh. Service while friendly could have been a little more attentive. Definitely Vancouver prices!
We ordered the Veggie Burger, Mushroom Toast & Pork Belly Benedict. The presentation was beautiful. The quality & flavours were chef's kiss. If I can make one critique, that would be I would have liked my Mushroom Toast a little hotter, it was lukewarm at best.
I also ordered the Udon Carbonara to go, for my partner. While delicious, we did find it quite salty.
Overall this is a nice little restaurant & a welcome addition to the Surrey food...
Read moreFound this place by searching on line and decided to give it a try. When you walk in, the place seems a little understated…has the cafe/diner feel but the food is much more for the most part. Be prepared to keep your coat at your seat because there are no coat hooks. We happened to catch happy hour and most of the items we would have ordered for dinner were on this menu, so we lucked out. The Royal Botanic Garden is made with Empress Gin and was delicious. My husband ordered a craft beer and it came in a sleeve glass with the rest in a can. Would be nice if they had pint size glasses to fit the whole beer. The items we ordered off the happy hour menu were delicious and well presented. The cauliflower bites were very tasty but I was disappointed that the description said it came with plantains but they served it with banana chips instead. If you’re looking for plantain, this is not the place but the dish was very flavourful and I would order it again. The chicken chilli lollipops were drumsticks and didn’t look like the picture. They are quite spicy and made my nose run so if spice is not your thing you won’t want to order them. We ordered the Aussie burger and the crispy chicken burger and I found them to be less flavourful than the other dishes we ordered. The fries we ordered for happy hour had way more flavour than the fries that came with our burgers. Don’t expect an after dinner coffee though because there is no barista after 4pm. I was a little bummed that I couldn’t have a coffee with the salted espresso brownie we tried for dessert. They can however make espresso so an Americano or double espresso shot is an after dinner option. The service was great! Our server Ally was fabulous and appreciated our feedback because she said they are new and value people sharing where they can improve. Overall, I’d definitely go back again but next time I’ll go before 4pm so I can try a flat white to kick off...
