I’ve dined at Taste of Super Kings a few times before, but today was special—we finally got to try their much-talked-about weekend South Indian thali (both veg and non-veg options available). We couldn’t get through on the phone to reserve a table, but decided to take a chance and walk in. The place was packed, and we had to wait about 15 minutes. Despite the crowd, the staff did a great job finding us a table fairly quickly, and we really appreciated their effort and professionalism. We were a group of four and ordered 2 Veg Thalis and 2 Non-Veg Thalis. The veg thali was $18.99 and the non-veg thali was $19.99—and both were absolutely worth it. Truly amazing in every way. I had the Veg Thali, and I was honestly blown away by the taste, quantity, and service. The food was phenomenal—it reminded me of home, and that’s not something I say lightly. So far, I haven’t come across another restaurant in Vancouver that comes even close to replicating the authentic South Indian flavours like this one did. The portion size was generous, and though we didn’t need refills, it was reassuring to know that they offered free refills. Very reasonable and thoughtful. The Veg Thali included: Sambar Rasam Puli Kozhambu Buttermilk Poriyal Kootu Chappathi with Curry Rice (ample quantity) Payasam Laddu Appalam Masala Vada Every single item was spot-on and delicious. A huge shoutout to the chefs behind the scenes—you’ve truly brought a taste of South India to Vancouver! Highly recommend for anyone missing home-style Tamil food or looking to experience authentic South Indian cuisine.

My wife and I ate lunch at this restaurant on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. From chatting with our server we learned that Taste of Super King (TSK) opened approximately three weeks earlier. We patronized this restaurant when it used to be known as Doon Spice and Curry. I didn't explicitly ask, and assume Doon Spice and Curry went out of business/sold the business/whatever. I think the most important thing is to not compare TSK against Doon Spice and Curry. While the restaurant decor/bar/cutlery/dishware are the same, the food is very different. The menu for TSK was primarily dosas with a few curry and tandoori options whereas Doon Spice and Curry had no dosas and primarily served curry dishes. Nevertheless, we ordered curry because we were expecting to eat at Doon Spice and Curry and not TSK. We initially ordered the lamb curry and aloo gohbi. Each curry comes with a choice of either a serving of rice or a serving of naan (see photos). I found the servings to be small, and the side of naan only consisted of three small pieces of naan. After we finished these two dishes, I ordered a butter chicken curry to satiate myself (no photos). The taste of all three dishes was average. I think that this restaurant could raise the price of their curry dishes by a few dollars and increase the portion sizes. Next time, I'd go for the dosas because dosas and not curry appears to be this restaurant's specialty.

Came here for iftar after finding out it was a new halal restaurant by my house and was not disappointed. The food was amazing and a good price point as well! We got their ramadan special which came with chicken 65, chicken biryani, goat curry, Naan, some raitha and dessert. We shared amongst 3 people and also got their butter chicken poiutine and tandoori chicken. Everything was 10/10, the tandoori chicken was juicy and fresh off the grill, the chicken 65 was also juicy and great flavor, the goat curry was really tasty and we were surprised it had no gamey taste, super fresh. The owner, Gopi was super kind and welcoming, he even gave us extra dessert for free which was very nice of him. The service was great as well, our water was always being refilled and plates cleared. The restaurant itself was very clean and didn't have a strong smell like a lot of Indian restaurants do (not saying that's a bad thing but usually I have to wash my clothes right after bc they start to smell). Overall, I am definitely ordering from here again and coming back to dine in. Every dish we tried was amazing and they have a lot of other stuff on the menu I am excited to try. If you are in the area or looking for a good halal Indian restaurant, definitely check them out!
