Title: A Delightful Culinary Experience at Udupi Palace - A Must-Try South Indian Restaurant Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5) Ambience: ⭐️⭐️ (2.5/5) Food: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5) Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5) I recently had the pleasure of dining at Udupi Palace, a charming South Indian restaurant that left me with a truly exceptional culinary experience. Offering a wide array of traditional dishes, this eatery is a hidden gem for those seeking authentic and mouthwatering South Indian cuisine. The menu boasted a variety of delectable options, and I decided to indulge in a range of dishes to truly savor the flavors. Our order included the renowned Onion Rava Masala Dosa, the Idli and Medhu Vada combo, Spring Rolls, Onion Tomato Uttapa, and Dahi Vada. From the very first bite, it was evident that Udupi Palace takes great pride in the quality and taste of their food. The star of the show was undeniably the Onion Rava Masala Dosa, a true masterpiece that tantalized my taste buds. The dosa was perfectly crisp, with a flavorful and generously stuffed masala filling. It was a delightful combination of textures and spices that left me craving more. The Idli and Medhu Vada combo was equally impressive. The idlis were soft, fluffy, and accompanied by a fragrant sambar that added a burst of flavors. The medhu vadas were wonderfully crispy on the outside and had a moist and flavorful interior, making for a delightful pairing. To my surprise, the Spring Rolls offered a fusion twist to our meal, and they were surprisingly delicious. The crunchy exterior gave way to a delectable mixture of vegetables, perfectly seasoned and balanced. It was a delightful departure from the traditional South Indian fare, adding an interesting dimension to our dining experience. The Onion Tomato Uttapa was another standout dish, featuring a thick and flavorful pancake topped with a generous portion of onions and tomatoes. The combination of the savory uttapa and the accompanying chutneys created a burst of flavors in every bite. While everything was superb, the Dahi Vada fell just short of perfection for my personal preference. The vadas were soft and spongy, but I would have preferred a slightly sweeter yogurt topping. Nevertheless, it was still a well-executed dish that had a lovely blend of tanginess and spiciness. Service at Udupi Palace was impeccable, with attentive staff who were knowledgeable about the menu and eager to assist. They ensured that our dining experience was comfortable and enjoyable, going above and beyond to accommodate our needs. The only aspect that fell slightly short of expectations was the ambience, which received a rating of 2.5 out of 5. While the restaurant had a modest interior, it lacked the charm and aesthetic appeal that would have elevated the overall dining experience. Nonetheless, the flavorful and authentic cuisine more than made up for this minor drawback. One of the most remarkable aspects of Udupi Palace is its affordability. Despite serving exceptional South Indian cuisine, the prices were reasonable, making it accessible to a wide range of diners. In conclusion, Udupi Palace is a hidden gem that offers an extraordinary culinary journey through the flavors of South India. With its delightful Onion Rava Masala Dosa, impeccable service, and an impressive selection of traditional dishes, this restaurant deserves the highest praise. I wholeheartedly recommend Udupi Palace to anyone in search of an unforgettable South

I recently visited udupi and had a good experience, marred only by one significant issue. *Food:* The cuisine was outstanding! Each dish was expertly prepared, presented, and bursting with flavor. The portion sizes were good and the menu offered a great variety. *Staff:* The service was top-notch! Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. The staff's dedication to ensuring a pleasant dining experience were evident throughout our visit. *The Only Drawback:* Unfortunately, our meal was interrupted by unwanted dinner guests – bugs! Yes, you read that right. Despite the restaurant's cleanliness, we spotted many insects flying around and even landed on our table. This issue needs immediate attention, I want to emphasize that it didn't define our overall experience and with improved pest control measures, it could easily become a 5-star destination. *Recommendation:* To the management, please address the pest issue promptly. To potential diners, don't let this deter you – the food and staff are truly exceptional. *Rating Breakdown:* - Food: 5/5 - Staff: 5/5 - Atmosphere: 1/5 Correct the bug issue, and I'll eagerly upgrade my review to 5* .

Unbelievable but true- ordered rasam and found a hair in it after eating two spoonsfuls. Went to restroom to throw up and saw the cook didn't have hairnet mask (restroom and kitchen entrances are infront of each other). That explains! Servers tried their best but seemed very inexperienced. Zero reaction or apology for the hair in food. Expression was like a normal day of business! I recommended another restaurant (same first name) to a colleague and she told me it's nothing special than Udupi palace in Newton. Hence went to try today and had this experience. Here the ambience is unwelcoming and crampy, feels gloomy. And the food is nothing interesting compared to my recommended one in Langley. Sambhar here is terrible - just thick lentil with spices. Chutney even worse. Sambhar is the best part and supposed to be the signature of a south Indian restaurant . I would suggest to avoid if you can.

I don’t even wanna give them a single star. I have seen restraunts with bad food, service but when it comes to a good place whether it’s a restraunt. It builds with excellent management and team and this is probably the worst to worst experience I got from them. I joined this restaurant past 3 weeks and the “OWNER” or I would say the manager whoever he is, told me to work for 3 days as unpaid training and then if you are suitable with all the work and feel comfortable doing literally like everything there serving, cleaning, taking orders, doing kitchen chores, packing etc etc. Those were his words then that I will post you on schedule. He desperately promised me when I dropped my resume and on the same day, he asked me to join and come tmr, as he said and I DID EVERYTHING. I stupidly did all the work I asked to do in those 3 days and finished until closings. HE MADE ME DO ALL CLOSING TASKS and I did cuz he promised me to put me on schedule and I felt so broken heart he didn’t even called or texted me. After a week I called the restaurant, he is so unprofessional he didn’t even talked to me said girl that he will contact me himself. I called them to ask like 3 times and NOTHING HAPPENED. WORST AND DISGUSTING thing to do with any student or kid who came to you With hopes and dedication. It’s not like I didn’t bothered to work or he didn’t like my work and professionalism cuz on the very 3rd day, I specifically asked me after closing that will he post me on schedule or not and then he was like yeah yeah sure, definitely will call you. And now it’s been past 3 weeks and here I am posting comment. I WANT TO INFORM EVERYONE WHO IS GOING TO THEM FOR ANY JOB OR ANYTHING, THEY ARE FRAUD. THEY HIRE AND PROMISE PEOPLE AND THEN DONT EVEN BOTHER TO CALL OR TEXT THEM. And make them do all the work for 3 days as said THAT’S TRAINING. I worked so hard there and got nothing....

Poor Customer Service

Update after owner’s reply:

Thank you for your response.

I understand that you have a standard portion for takeout, but the issue is that your staff assured me I would receive extra sambhar when I specifically requested it. If that was not possible, they should have informed me upfront rather than making false assurances.

Additionally, my concern wasn’t just about the portion size—it was also about the poor customer service. When I called to clarify, the staff member was dismissive and ultimately hung up on me, which was extremely unprofessional.

I appreciate your response, but it does not address these concerns. Unfortunately, this experience has left a negative impression, and I cannot recommend your restaurant to others.

Original review

I recently visited this restaurant for the first time and ordered two dosas and spring rolls. While placing my order, I specifically mentioned that it was my first time and asked for a GENEROUS amount of sambhar with the dosas. The staff assured me that extra sambhar would be provided.

When I got home, I was disappointed to find only one small container of sambhar, which was barely enough for one person, let alone two. On top of that, the food itself was below average—the dosas lacked flavor, sambhar was sweet and the spring rolls were bland.

I called the restaurant to report the issue, but the response was unhelpful. The girl on the phone kept repeating that the sambhar provided was their standard portion, completely ignoring the fact that I had requested extra. When I asked for her name, she hung up on me, which was incredibly rude and unprofessional.

Between the subpar food and poor customer service, this experience was highly disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend this place and certainly won’t...
