Update - The owner was very nice via email, I was overly cranky but he took it in stride and offered a new meal. I had the same order weeks later and it was great, cooked very well and fresh. Thanks I'll be coming back.
My first time at Vera's and what a disaster. The kid at the counter warned me the burgers are pink in the middle but not to worry as they are safe to eat and I totally agree and say they should never be cooked beyond medium rare, he metions to the cook to make it medium rare. so far so good a juicy burger coming up I presume. Next issue is I love mushrooms and want to get a loaded mushroom burger, there are no specific mushroom burger's but I can load any burger with ton's of mushrooms. OK great I say, order the Canuck burger and ton's of mushrooms and Oh boy what a disaster, no mushrooms, the patty is a charcoal, burned to hell , fries are bitter and 1/2 inch long and over cooked, the ketchup on the table tasted moldy UGH. I guess you can't leave 17 year olds in charge of this cause they are polite but really don't know nothing. I didn't complain just got out of there 18 dollars...
Read moreI have always enjoyed the hamburgers at Vera's Burger Shack. BUT NOT THIS TIME ! We decided for the first time to visit the Cloverdale location off number 10 highway . The restaurant was clean and the staff were polite and friendly. When our burgers came and we started to eat them we discovered that the meat was very raw not rare "raw". I brought this to the attention of the fellow at the counter and he said that's the way they were instructed to cook them. I sat down with our unfinished burgers and was eating the also undercooked fries, the fellow then came by and asked if there is anything he could do. I told him that I was somewhat concerned at how rare the hamburger was on the inside. He told me he was instructed by the owner Corey that's the way they were to cook them. Pink is one thing but not red raw. I have never had a burger this rare on the inside at another Vera's..and never anywhere else for that matter ..If they're that raw on the inside they're not cooked properly according to the USDA federal food and drug administration they can't be red on the inside. Ordered several burgers today for a family event and was told about the pink-in-the-middle format that the burgers are usually served. I instead requested all burgers fully well done, and when we got home, every single burger was pink in the center. Attempted phone calls to rectify the order were all met after 2 and a half rings with a full voicemail box. What kind of service is this?
One of our relatives is immunocompromised and can't risk getting sick from any undercooked food. This is unacceptable. Isn't it also against Foodsafe regulations in Canada to serve undercooked ground beef products?? Totally frustrating. We had to microwave them all at home, talk about a nuisance.
To the owner, please inform your staff of this health concern. I'd appreciate a response to this comment. Thank you.
Edit: the owner has responded to my email and is willingly replacing all 7 of the burgers ordered, on the house. Vera's burgers are apparently each checked with a meat thermometer to required doneness, which is still slightly pink. The follow up is greatly...
