This sushi spot is not Japanese/Korean-owned (which I feel produces the best sushi), but they totally deserve 5 stars for their service and full effort. First of all, my husband is gluten-free. We came during their opening week and it was here that we learned that wasabi is not totally Gf (!). Also, they did not have GF soy sauce (i.e. tamari) available so they sent one of their staff members out to retrieve us a bottle of GF soy sauce!?!
My husband had some sushi and they did NOT disappoint in their quantity. Also their sushi was much fresher than some of the other spots in the Forest Glade area. I personally ordered a black garlic ramen and although it didn’t taste fully authentic, I do commend them on their tries (still tasted good but obviously not authentic). My niece also had a similar experience; she ordered a pho which she enjoyed but was not authentic-tasting in comparison to Vietnamese-owned restaurants. Again, I give them props on creating a tasty take on their interpretation. So 5stars for stellar...
Read moreWent in to order takeout on my way out of town today. I ordered the Philadelphia Roll and the Crazy Roll (which is supposed to be deep fried) and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. I left for 15 minutes to do some shopping and when I came back they told me that my order wasn't ready because they had forgotten to turn the deep-fryer on. I was okay with waiting a little longer so I did. I asked to use the washroom which was very unclean (black mold growing in the leaking sink). 20 minutes later I was given a Philadelphia Roll that made me feel SICK and the Crazy Roll was not fried nearly enough to be crispy, in fact, it was mushy and grey. I just ended up throwing it out. A waste of my time, money and health. A word of advice to those leaving positive reviews, PLEASE go see where your food is being prepared. You probably won't be back. I...
Read moreGenki Sushi is a standout gem, easily one of my top three sushi spots in the city. I always do take out and their sushi's exceptional freshness and taste is consistent.
The fish-to-rice ratio in their rolls is excellent, every bite is perfectly balanced – not too much rice. The menu's variety has something for everyone; from the appetizers, I personally love spring rolls, house salad and grilled skewers. In terms of sushi, I love all salmon and tuna rolls, and never go without some salmon sashimi which is always a generous portion.
What truly makes Genki Sushi special is the owners. You're greeted as a friend, and the owner's ability to remember regulars and their preferences adds a uniquely welcoming feel each visit.
Genki Sushi is a must-visit for its outstanding quality, variety, and...
