It’s been too long since I was able to have my weekend sauna due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today was my triumphant return, and it was glorious! Small, medium and large rooms available. $28 got me a small room for an hour and a half, and it was worth every nickel considering how good I feel afterwards. The fun doesn’t end at the sauna. Afterwards I relaxed in the patio and had a delicious bacon and egg breakfast. Kangas has some of the best Finn pancakes pound for pound in the city. French toast, eggs benedict and a fine spot for an omelet with a morning coffee. I have never tried the lunch menu, but I was really liking the looks of the sandwiches and burgers at the tables around me. This city had better not lock down again. My sauna helps center me for my upcoming work week.

Been coming here with my Grandmother for over 25 years. Always been a tradition that we get pancakes with strawberries and whipping cream. The food still tastes the same but unfortunately the bill made me regret our visit. We ordered two small pancakes and one drink that came to $46. As a business owner I understand inflation and the price of food going up but I find this price obscene and can't justify in my head that two small pancakes and one drink should cost $50 in today's world. I will say the food and service was good but will be making a new tradition of making pancakes at home after this visit.

Ate here a few times while in Thunder Bay. The breakfast options are simple but delicious, with a special mention for the Finnish Pancakes. I highly recommend these with berries and cream for something truly decadent. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was nice and casual. I cannot comment on the saunas themselves at this time as we were only there for breakfast. Definitely worth a stop!

Update: Two years later and it's only gotten worse. The saunas remain in disrepair. There are large gaps in the sauna seating AND DOORS that let in drafts unless you plug them up yourself. The sauna stoves have elements that konk out every other day. Pray you don't book one of those. My contractor friends that sauna there say the work would be easy and cheap, the owners just don't care. But beyond that the place is FILTHY.

Check out the ceiling fans. Literally disintegrating under the most dust and dirt I've ever seen. Several times people I know have gotten FOOT FUNGUS from this place. They've got one cleaner (nice woman) that works half the time to do a cursory rinse of the saunas, at best. I've been privy to seeing the kitchen and I now refuse to eat anything that comes from there. Even if the kitchen were clean the drunk chef Michelle would mess it up before she's even finished nuking a bucket of week-old soup for you.

Let's not even mention that they never bothered to implement any Covid protections besides the plastic screen for their teller. They were supposed to shut down altogether, but never did. Nevermind removing tables for social distancing or increased cleaning standards, that never happened either. Real considerate owners, eh? All that is bad enough, but they even had the gall to RAISE THE PRICES.

They now blatantly rip you off if you come as a group. Almost double the price from before, not split between your group but a flat charge for each. Kangas is not providing anything more for this additional charge, they're just charging more. That extra person that wants to tag along, instead of helping with the cost, just increased the price of your sauna. Oh and don't forget that increased price only gets you 90 minutes, another decrease from before. Kangas is the type of place to rip you off as much as possible with the lowest standards possible. Pictures to come.

Original Review: A sauna is always nice and you can get one here. Most of the staff are nice (especially the cleaner Ronatta). However the prices are ludicrously high considering the poorly maintained facility. The kitchen is filthy and the standards are worse. The building and equipment have major problems and the owners do not care. They refuse to put the needed capital and time into their business and it shows. I have no doubt the Health Unit would shut them down after a proper investigation. The owners Al and Cali raised the prices without fixing or improving anything. I can only recommend this place if you've got money to waste, call ahead to book one of the few decently maintained saunas, and do nothing else there apart from sauna. The owners do not deserve your custom, but you'll be hard pressed to find another place to sauna without buying...

Abysmal service and terrible food! We went to Kangas Sauna for breakfast a couple weeks ago because I'd heard this place serves gluten-free Finnish pancakes. I had high hopes, but they were soon smashed to smithereens. On requesting the gluten-free Finnish pancakes, they said "No, we only do that on special occasions". Whaa?? How ridiculous. You either serve gluten-free Finnish pancakes (crepes) or you don't. I guess our occassion wasn't special enough.. So, we orderd from the menu.. My wife ordered poached eggs and they arrived completely overcooked (solid). Not soft or runny at all. Then my one son ordered eggs fried medium (he hates runny eggs) and they arrived completely runny. He was grossed out and didn't eat them. My other son and my daughter-in-law ordered the regular Finnish pancakes and they barely touched them. They were unimpressed. The server never checked on us and never even offered a coffee refill and, when asked, it took her well over 10 minutes to get back to us. The restaurant was virtually empty! My family said I should've cooked for them as I make fantastic gluten-free Finnish pancakes (even better than Hoito's non-GF pancakes) and I actually know how to cook eggs! LOL Sadly, we will never go back to Kangas Sauna. Makes...

I am not usually one to write a review on anything, however , my experience at Kangas was terrible , my 4 year old granddaughter and I not only waited over an hour to be seated , but when we went to to use the washroom ( I told staff we were going so they knew we didn’t leave) they gave our seats to a group of 4 that came 45 min after us!!! I asked the girl behind the counter why and she said “oh , we thought you left , sorry !!!! Are u kidding me ! After being seated they completely forgot to serve us and I had to get up and remind them we were there , they then served the people that were seated before us first and we waited again !!! Once we finally got service , I was disappointed to see that the menu options are so minimal , no breakfast specials , everything priced individually, and one our order came it was ok,but not great , it cost $ 50 for my 4 year old granddaughter and I to eat breakfast, which is ridiculous ( There is no kids menu btw) we will not be going there ever again , we found a new place we live on Dawson rd that...
