We went to this restaurant excited to be able to have a few drinks and eat. The patio was decorated nicely and it seemed to have a great vibe. We were seated and it took along time to be acknowledged. Finally got our drink orders in and placed our food order at the same time. We ordered 2 burger plates and 3 fish tacos. We got our drinks 2 of the alcohol slushy drinks and a craft beer. The slushy drinks were great, the beer was mediocre. 20 minutes later we were told that they had ran out of burgers because they only prep so many a day! We were not happy that it took 20 minutes for our server to figure that out but we ordered something else to replace the burgers and while we waited we ordered another round of drinks. Crap happens and just wanted to make the best of it. Our server came back with a beer 10 minutes later but no slushy drinks. We waited a bit longer thinking they may take a little longer to prepare and the restaurant was busy. Finally saw our server again and asked him about our drinks and he forgot to order them. He then went to the bar to order and they had already shut down the machines???? We were absolutely not happy and totally dumbfounded the machines were shutdown with a full restaurant and they were still open for another 40 minutes. We told the server that this is ridiculous. The restaurant was packed and the machines are shut down at 8:20pm????? He then told us they have decided to close at 8:30 tonight when the hours showed 9!! We ended up cancelling our food order paid our bill and left. No manager came to apologize or anything. We then found out from our hotel staff this restaurant was on Netflix. When we got home we watched it and saw Joe crying about how he wants his restaurant to succeed. I call bull!! He was there that night never acknowledged us or say anything about not having the burgers or shutting down the machines. He was too busy taking down the decor and putting down the umbrellas to close up shop. He had every opportunity to make some great money that night for his busy restaurant but was too busy wanting to leave to care. We can’t rate the food because we never got a chance to eat. The service was terrible. The servers looked scared and inexperienced, like deer caught in headlights. The view is beautiful and the slushy drinks were good. Would have loved to try more. It’s unfortunate he owns such a beautiful spot but has no business sense to run a business. We will absolutely...

I was excited to try this restaurant after a recommendation from a friend who visited last year and the Netflix episode, but I was very disappointed with the experience and food. The ordering process was confusing and the group in front of me actually left because of this. You order "take out" and grab whatever table is open on the patio, and then the food is brought bagged up to your table (and then the servers have to deal with cleaning up the huge amount of waste from all the "take out" packaging - seriously, we were shocked with the amount of trash we had).

We were told the menu was pared down because of covid and there were only three cooks in the kitchen. Fair enough, but the food was very bland and extremely overpriced. Tacos were almost $10 each or 3/$20, but they lacked any flavour. We tried the mussels in curry sauce and the sauce honestly tasted like tomato soup, served with toasted hamburger buns cut into halves (???). Even the cheesecake had an odd texture and aftertaste, like freezer burnt ice cream. The only winner was the coconut shrimp. For coconut shrimp, six tacos, two drinks and two slices of cake I paid $120. I don't usually leave reviews but we were so disappointed with this meal and this experience especially for what we had paid. I understand covid is still an issue but when every other restaurant in town has normal patio table service I don't know what the excuse is. If you want better bang for your money in Tobermory try the Tacomory food truck or Tobermory...

Super bummed tonight after my partner drove me all the way to Tobermory specifically for a sunset dinner at Coconut Joe's for my birthday tonight. I have food sensitivities, which I made our server aware of as soon as she visited our table. I let her know my sensitivities and asked for her to consult the kitchen to see what items on the menu would be okay for me. She came back with some exclusions and we placed our orders. Unfortunately, not once, but three times, she came back to say I couldn't eat what I had ordered (even though I was ordering within her recommendations) and at the end of the day, was served a plain burger with lettuce and tomato, which wasn't even what I had ordered in the first place (it was missing pineapple!). At this point, our server has disappeared, we had drinks and food delivered by three new servers, and from here on out, service ceased to exist for myself and my partner, for over an hour.

My partner had to ask for our bill twice, from two different people so we could pay to leave.

I've never experienced service like this. I am so embarrassed to put people out because of my food sensitivities, I make a real effort to be kind, patient and understanding when there are challenges as a result of them. My partner and I were both very warm and friendly towards the servers and staff of Coconut Joe but were treated like we didn't exist.

We paid $130 for a very disappointing, lackluster and quite frankly, unacceptable experience (except the coconut...

My family and I were excited to eat at this location. We recognized it from a makeover show on Netflix. Upon arrival there was a line up to get in ( potentially a good sign) considering it was a Monday. Line moved fast enough and we were seated. Host and wait staff were amazingly diligent, prompt and accommodating. We understood it was late and kitchen would close soon nonetheless we ordered anyway. I ordered the white fish chowder but nothing about it was white. It was clear to me that it was just grill or seared ( possibly left over) white fish that was thrown into a chowder like creamy liquid along with carrot rounds. It lacked flavour. I also had some of the tacos but aside from the topping the actual corn taco which they used was not warmed up. Not sure if they understand that if they warm up the corn taco it becomes soft and chewy complimenting the ingredients within. I ate cold hard tacos. With ranch or Ceasar dressing. Apart from that the staff was great, the ambience delivered and I'd definitely return but not towards the end of the night.

While travelling to Tobermory for the first time I was excited to try "Coconut Joes" as I had seen it showcased on Netflix's "Restaurant on the Edge". When we arrived getting a table was a little confusing as no one took our name we were just told to have a seat on benchs outside the patio. We waited maybe 15 mins and it was pretty busy so that was great!! Our waiter was pretty cool and got us drinks right away....and took our order soon after!! Food came pretty fast...I ordered the Jerk Chicken tacos and the wife had the Maui burger. The burger is smoked so it is different looking and a different texture the wife liked it but would have preferred charbroiled but hey she can go to Burger King for that....we were in Tobermory. My tacos were tasty but they could have been warmer....no biggie!! The view and the patio made up for it....we felt like we were in Key West....great views and vibe!! Met the owner Mike he was cool and very accomodating....even took a pic with us!! We will definitely be back!! Thanks Coconut Joes!!
