We went to this restaurant excited to be able to have a few drinks and eat. The patio was decorated nicely and it seemed to have a great vibe. We were seated and it took along time to be acknowledged. Finally got our drink orders in and placed our food order at the same time. We ordered 2 burger plates and 3 fish tacos. We got our drinks 2 of the alcohol slushy drinks and a craft beer. The slushy drinks were great, the beer was mediocre. 20 minutes later we were told that they had ran out of burgers because they only prep so many a day! We were not happy that it took 20 minutes for our server to figure that out but we ordered something else to replace the burgers and while we waited we ordered another round of drinks. Crap happens and just wanted to make the best of it. Our server came back with a beer 10 minutes later but no slushy drinks. We waited a bit longer thinking they may take a little longer to prepare and the restaurant was busy. Finally saw our server again and asked him about our drinks and he forgot to order them. He then went to the bar to order and they had already shut down the machines???? We were absolutely not happy and totally dumbfounded the machines were shutdown with a full restaurant and they were still open for another 40 minutes. We told the server that this is ridiculous. The restaurant was packed and the machines are shut down at 8:20pm????? He then told us they have decided to close at 8:30 tonight when the hours showed 9!! We ended up cancelling our food order paid our bill and left. No manager came to apologize or anything. We then found out from our hotel staff this restaurant was on Netflix. When we got home we watched it and saw Joe crying about how he wants his restaurant to succeed. I call bull!! He was there that night never acknowledged us or say anything about not having the burgers or shutting down the machines. He was too busy taking down the decor and putting down the umbrellas to close up shop. He had every opportunity to make some great money that night for his busy restaurant but was too busy wanting to leave to care. We can’t rate the food because we never got a chance to eat. The service was terrible. The servers looked scared and inexperienced, like deer caught in headlights. The view is beautiful and the slushy drinks were good. Would have loved to try more. It’s unfortunate he owns such a beautiful spot but has no business sense to run a business. We will absolutely...
Read moreI was excited to try this restaurant after a recommendation from a friend who visited last year and the Netflix episode, but I was very disappointed with the experience and food. The ordering process was confusing and the group in front of me actually left because of this. You order "take out" and grab whatever table is open on the patio, and then the food is brought bagged up to your table (and then the servers have to deal with cleaning up the huge amount of waste from all the "take out" packaging - seriously, we were shocked with the amount of trash we had).
We were told the menu was pared down because of covid and there were only three cooks in the kitchen. Fair enough, but the food was very bland and extremely overpriced. Tacos were almost $10 each or 3/$20, but they lacked any flavour. We tried the mussels in curry sauce and the sauce honestly tasted like tomato soup, served with toasted hamburger buns cut into halves (???). Even the cheesecake had an odd texture and aftertaste, like freezer burnt ice cream. The only winner was the coconut shrimp. For coconut shrimp, six tacos, two drinks and two slices of cake I paid $120. I don't usually leave reviews but we were so disappointed with this meal and this experience especially for what we had paid. I understand covid is still an issue but when every other restaurant in town has normal patio table service I don't know what the excuse is. If you want better bang for your money in Tobermory try the Tacomory food truck or Tobermory...
Read moreSuper bummed tonight after my partner drove me all the way to Tobermory specifically for a sunset dinner at Coconut Joe's for my birthday tonight. I have food sensitivities, which I made our server aware of as soon as she visited our table. I let her know my sensitivities and asked for her to consult the kitchen to see what items on the menu would be okay for me. She came back with some exclusions and we placed our orders. Unfortunately, not once, but three times, she came back to say I couldn't eat what I had ordered (even though I was ordering within her recommendations) and at the end of the day, was served a plain burger with lettuce and tomato, which wasn't even what I had ordered in the first place (it was missing pineapple!). At this point, our server has disappeared, we had drinks and food delivered by three new servers, and from here on out, service ceased to exist for myself and my partner, for over an hour.
My partner had to ask for our bill twice, from two different people so we could pay to leave.
I've never experienced service like this. I am so embarrassed to put people out because of my food sensitivities, I make a real effort to be kind, patient and understanding when there are challenges as a result of them. My partner and I were both very warm and friendly towards the servers and staff of Coconut Joe but were treated like we didn't exist.
We paid $130 for a very disappointing, lackluster and quite frankly, unacceptable experience (except the coconut...
