We came here on a Thursday evening for our 6 p.m. reservation to celebrate a friend's birthday. We were seated shortly at a table for 8 (there were 7 of us girls in total) and it was very roomy.
For starters & while we waited for the rest of the party to arrive, we ordered their house salsa tasting and guacamole. The salsa tasting was nothing special. The spiciest salsa wasn't even that spicy and the two mildest ones were mediocre with one being sweet. I'd pass on ordering this one again. The guacamole was amazing!!! They make it tableside for you and it is served in a bowl that is made of volcanic rock.
Once the rest of the party arrived, we ordered more starters. We got the guacamole again (it was that good! I could sit here and eat it all night!), coconut shrimp, mezcal adobo mussels and fundido tradicional. The coconut shrimp is on the same level as the salsa tasting. I didn't really taste the coconut and it was just tempera shrimp with some sauce on the plate... it looked unfinished. I felt like it could of been served with some garnishes. The mussels were good and I liked that it was also served in the bowl made of volcanic rock... seems like the bowl was heated up and stayed warm the entire time, which kept the mussels warm and didn't cool from sitting out for too long.
After that, we ordered a bunch of tacos for the table. We ordered 6 of the crispy tilapia tacos under their classic tacos and premium tacos: tacos de cameron (bread prawns), birria de res (braised short rib) and tacos de pescado (grilled mahi mahi). I had the braised short rib taco (the taco is deep fried) and comes with some accompaniments + a consommé to dip your taco in. This taco is fun but can get messy. I also had the grilled mahi mahi which was nice and a fresher take on a taco.
We then moved on to eating the birthday cake (which we brought) and also ordered their churros. The churros comes with chocolate sauce (yum!) however it was over fried & hard.
We ended up staying there until close to midnight (our reservation max seating time was supposed to be 2.5 hours) and think we were able to do that as there was always seating available during the entire time we were there. At 10 p.m. when their happy hour began, we ordered three of their beef barbacoa tacos at $3 per taco. I really enjoyed the beef taco as it had a nice kick (spiciness) to it. We also ordered more churros (this time it was cooked well) and their tres leches cake.
Kudos to our main server, Javin for putting up with us for so long! He was friendly and provided enough attention to our table + he could be easily located during our time there. He even helped us take a few photos and at one point, suggested going to their patio (covered in the winter) to take a photo if we wanted a really nice one!
My friend and I also bought the I LOVE TEQUILA t-shirt that all the staff were wearing! It is such a cool t-shirt... has a logo of their skull on the back in color.
I would definitely go back there again! The atmosphere is nice, the music coming out of the speakers is fun and their staff are all amazing. Next time, we'll go for $3 per classic taco to have with 1/2 priced tequila (includes even the top shelf ones) and maybe throw in some...
Read moreWe visited this place for a special family dinner to celebrate my parents’ birthday and the end of the year. Since my parents rarely get to try this type of cuisine, we thought it would be a unique treat. The restaurant has a spacious dining room with a distinct Latin vibe, featuring thoughtful decor and accents that blend well with the atmosphere. The menu itself looked promising at first glance, but unfortunately, the dimly lit booth made it difficult for my parents to read it. We opted for a selection of shareable dishes rather than main entrées, focusing on items with toppings or ingredients less common elsewhere. Our order included Tableside Guacamole, Scallop Esquites, Pork Carnitas, Crispy Fish, Tacos De Camarón, Quesabirria, and Churros for dessert. While the focus here is clearly on atmosphere and experience rather than high-quality Mexican cuisine, it is worth noting a few highlights. The Tableside Guacamole presentation was fun, and the server preparing it had a great sense of humor. The Scallop Esquites had a nice Latin kick, with flavors and aromas that stood out. The Tacos De Camarón, featuring shrimp instead of the typical fish, were the standout dish for me. The combination of avocado, pico de gallo, and serrano created a rich and balanced flavor profile. That said, the churros were disappointing, greasy, and heavier than the ones I am used to. However, these were minor issues, as I was mainly there to enjoy the evening with my family. The real problem lay with the service. Our server’s passive attitude set the tone from the start. When we asked if there were any special perks for a birthday celebration, the server promised to check but never followed up. Toward the end, she casually asked if the birthday person had a good time, almost as an afterthought. The server’s robotic demeanor, briefly asking if everything was fine before disappearing, and the rushed way she ended her shift by dropping the check with no explanation were off-putting. Worse, when we wanted to pay, it took over 10 minutes for them to return with the receipt. In contrast, the person who appeared to be a manager checked in on us throughout the evening, answered questions patiently, and handled the busy environment with professionalism and a smile. If I could, I would say the tip we left was for her than for our actual server. It is disappointing that such a lovely evening with family was overshadowed by a lackluster service experience. I have met baristas who can brighten your day with a simple interaction over a $3 coffee. In contrast, this 45-minute dinner felt far from enjoyable, and the service was the...
Read moreOverpriced tacos with underachieving staff. First and last time to this restaurant, heard a lot of hype about it, so the wife and I decided to give it a shot. My wife is not as picky as I am when it comes to food or service for that matter- I on the other hand am! As a business owner myself, I take pride in delivering quality results with exceptional service- and to my dismay, this restaurant failed to deliver on both fronts. The place opens up at 11:30am, we enter the restaurant at noon and ask for a table for two. The place has maybe 3 tables at the time, yet the host asks me if we have reservations?? Ummm no… we’re just here for some lunch 🤷♂️ no problem, she seats us at a table of our choosing. Not long after, our waiter appears… as much as I can appreciate and respect the younger generation taking on a waiter’s position, I am also a true believer that with this position, your appearance speaks volumes- you are essentially the face of the establishment and need to be presentable. My first impression of our waiter was “what the hell happened to his shirt”? It looked unwashed and dirty, I was ready to ask for another waiter as I didn’t want this kid anywhere near my food, but after asking him what happened, I actually felt bad for him. Within a half hour of his shift, he had an accident in the kitchen 🤭🤦♂️ but seriously, are you telling me that you came to work at a restaurant without an extra shirt? Considering the kine of work you do, accidents can and will happen, that doesn’t mean it’s ok to parade around the restaurant and serve customers with a dirty shirt- sorry, doesn’t work that way. Nonetheless, we move on to our apps, they were “just” ok. During this time, my waiter came to check on us a couple of times, yet failed to take any of the garbage from the table away with him- this is waiter 101 practice and should NOT have to be asked to take away any wrappers etc away! It was obvious, that our waiter either didn’t want to be at work, or wasn’t trained properly. For our lunch, I ordered some chicken tacos while my wife ordered some shrimp tacos. The wife was ok with her meal, mine on the other hand was “just” ok again… it didn’t even come with sour cream, that was an extra .50 cents 🤣 you had to really look for the toppings that the menu claimed it came with, it was also slightly dry. I have had much better from Chipotle.
2 non alcoholic drinks, 2 apps and a few tacos set us back slightly over $100 + tax and a 15% tip. We won’t...
