This is my first time writing a review online. I went to the store to pick up a mutton briyani and purchased two mango puddings. When I got home I ate one of the mango puddings first. I thought I was eating powdered sugar sprinkled on one of the puddings. But it tasted like fuzzy feathers. I took a closer look at the pudding and learned that there was a white fungus/mold growing on the pudding which looks like powdered sugar. I was extremely upset because of the potential health concerns. I went to the store and requested the man working at the cash register (the one who also got me the mango pudding from the fridge) to give me refund. He looked at the food showed 0 concern not even an apology. He said he can refund my mango pudding but not the briyani. When I asked why he said in a rude tone that there is nothing wrong with the briyani. I told him I can't trust the briyani if my pudding has mold in it. I requested for the 8 dollars. He began to raise his voice and become defensive. I was already upset knowing I had eaten the molded pudding but now I'm angry that this person cannot even refund my meal or provide an apology. I told him that i could easily have this escalated and inform people about this or I can accept an apology and wont make it an issue. The person behind the desk chose to shout at me and be defensive. At this point workers from the back came and stood there watching our argument with nobody even attempting to intervene or deescalate the situation. I do not believe in hurting small businesses I support small businesses so I asked him one last time am I going to get my refund or should I escalate this? He screamed and at me and told me to go away.
On some days I have paid 7 dollars for a large box of briyani. On some days I am charged 10 dollars for a medium box of briyani. After scrolling through the reviews I realize that I am not the only one who is over charged...
Read moreI’ve been to Shizuku several times before, but I’ve never checked out the store next to it, Bavu Villas. Bavu Villas is a takeout restaurant that specializes Sri Lankan and South Indian street food cuisine (rolls, kothu roti, noodles, etc.). It must be popular; I see customers constantly coming in and out, even customers from New York!
I came here for the kothu roti. It’s a popular Sri Lankan street food made from chopped roti, vegetables, egg, sauces and a choice of protein. It’s known for the rhythmic chopping sound made by chefs as they prepare the meal; the best chefs create their own music rhythm.
This place offers mutton kothu and various chicken ones. I believe the standard one is mutton, but the person working there suggested I get the chilli chicken for $12.99. The chilli chicken flavour adds a Chinese fusion twist to it which many people like. I think this is also safer for me, as I’m more comfortable with these flavours.
The workers here are quite nice (general consensus by people on Google reviews too), and they gave me a mutton roll on the house because they felt bad for making me wait for my order.
The kothu roti came out piping hot and fragrant. I have nothing to compare this to, but the flavours were great. I wish it was a bit more spicy, but I’m sure this can be communicated with them beforehand. The portion is huge and I took 3-4 sessions to finish it all. My only complaint is that there wasn’t enough chicken compared to the amount of roti that was included, so the ratio was a bit off for me.
Anyways, I highly suggest this place for some...
