So saw all the hype of this place for a few years in TikTok and Instagram as an over the top place to have a mountain of lobster or crab and finally decided to try this. First off it’s not cheap- I went because of a celebration and debated if the price would be worth it. I’m the end I am happy to say the meal I got I felt was worth it. They offer several combos for a group table. I had 9 people but ordered a meal for 6-8 people after seeing several reviews about the quantity. Our meal came with a soup, beef tenderloin dish, lobster mountain, sweet and sour pork, sauted greens, lobster roe fried rice, and dessert. We splurged and bought crab with Maggie sauce too. Here are my thoughts. First off the main meal we ordered was enough for 9 people and extra. The crab we also got was way extra but glad we tried it. We didn’t try Alaskan crab as it was super expensive although many tables around us tried it. First off restaurant is organized / no confusion over reservations (but reservations are required) It’s a crowded restaurant and loud so this is not your quiet fancy restaurant. Wait staff is super efficient / infact I have never seen a place so efficient before. Menus are a little simple - it’s a laminated menu and several sheets given to decide what options to choose from. Weights of seafood are approx weights. Once you decide what you want they bring out a large container with the lobster or crab weight you decided on. They know it’s a good photo op so they show you how to hold it and let you take photos which is funny and over the top. Then they take it away and cook it. Our first was corn soup 2nd course was a bowl of diced tenderloin with Asian greens which was was so tender and tasty - it’s a smaller bowl sort of like an appetizer. Next came the show stopper mountain of lobster 10.5lbs and then our extra crab which was 2.5lbs. The fun is how it’s presented as a tower. The lobster is prepared Hong kong style steamed and then chopped into bit size pieces and stacked to creat a pyramid. crispy French fries are put between each layer as a base to glue the food pyramid with a pound of crispy fried garlic sprinkled throughout and on top with shredded lettuce on top. The crab we got we opted for fried with Maggie sauce and it qives is a deeper flavour . The lobster is addictive as well as the crispy garlic and fries. You would think fries won’t work in a Chinese restaurant but it totally does. Next week got the snow pea tips with goji berries. Then they give sweet and sour pork (this is not mall food equivalent…) super crispy and addictive sweetness. Last came the lobster roe. By this time you have no space in your stomach to eat the rice - it has a mildly fishy taste but is yummy. Lastly the dessert probably is more like a candy type dessert it’s squares of orange and ginger jelly which maybe kind of cleanses your palette at the end. Couple things to note. The menu gives you the approx weight of the seafood but when they bring it out they show you a label with the weight. Our lobster was 10.5lbs and crab was 2.5lbs so they give you a price before cooking and ask you to agree paying the extra so that will add to your expected meal costs. each table is a pot of green tea and hot water which will get refilled throughout the meal. Tables are set with plates bowls and chopsticks - we didn’t see other cutlery but I’m sure we could ask. A box of disposable gloves is provided - note this is hands on meal you will be grabbing pieces of lobster with your hands and eating. They constantly replace your places as it fills up with shells. There will be extras and they come prepared with take out containers and clean and pack everything away - it’s super efficient. Note this restaurant only takes cash, debit or American money which is odd. Tip is automatically added to bill but is only 12% which is reasonable. Staff is efficient everyone knows what they are doing no confusion. It was an experience loved the opportunity to try it for a special occasion. If I wanted to splurge another time I would...

Order: king crab (cooked two ways), two lobsters course meal. (Came with the fried rice and pea shoots). Keep in mind only 3 people eating. Our budget today was greater than our stomachs.
Location: 5/5 depending on where you live in Toronto. Kennedy and Finch makes it very close to the highway and easy to find. It is a large restaurant on Finch, definitely hard to miss with plenty of parking. Seating was very comfortable, spacious and very high ceiling. We were surrounded by walls of aquariums, housing our potential candidates for devouring. (Hey, at least you know it is fresh). Not PETA friendly so don't come here if you're an activist lol. Gourmet yes, vegan, no.
Service: 5/5 given covid protocols very technologically advanced method of screening. They had a gate detector that measured temperature too. I felt very safe coming here. We had a reservation (must for now, this place is packed). Staff was excellent, organized and knew when to replace our plates before shells got too crowded.
Value: 3/5 or 5/5 depends on who you ask. Yes, you're going to pay a premium for fresh seafood. But if you bring a large enough group your cost per person wouldn't be too bad. Cash or debit only. This was not a cheap meal. Definitely in the higher end of prices per person.
Taste: The soup they provided was very well done. We didn't upgrade to shark fin as we were here for the crab and lobster.
The vegetable (pea shoots with goji berries) was a nice touch to round out the some of the heavily fried seafood. Light yet flavorful.
A lobster mountain (fried HK style "避風塘" or typhoon shelter style) was complemented with French fries and fried garlic. This was my favorite part of the meal by far. Delicious, fragrant and crispy.
We also had king crab cooked two ways.
First steamed with egg whites. I tried this first to get the natural flavor of the crab, whose essence was soaked by the bed of egg whites below. Would be bland if I tried the other dishes first.
Second, crab legs stacked in a Jenga like manner with a honey garlic sauce? Not quite sure. Doesn't matter it was fantastic. Sticky, sweet, and succulent. Reminded me of eating ribs but from the ocean.
Finally, we had a lobster roe or crab roe fried rice. It was presented with our king crab shell covering it. Honestly, this was an after thought considering the lovely seafood presented.
Macaroons for dessert. Very standard. Ok no one comes here for that...let's not kid ourselves.
Overall: 5/5. Quite a memorable meal because of unique the presentation. Would be more impressive if we had more people and a bigger lobster but for the amount we had, the 3 of us couldn't finish.
Excellent meal. Definitely a bucket list type...
Read moreI've been to Fishman Lobster for all kinds of occasions, with groups of varying sizes with differing price points. I will say, they have not increased their prices yet unlike other restaurants that have been hit hard with inflation. I do expect to see a price hike soon, as lobster and crab are a special treat and definitely something people will pay a premium for.
As for the food, it is a spectacle and worth the price you pay. The huge lobster mountain or impressive king crab you can order is perfect for all kinds of special occasions or to show a friend who's visiting town a good time. This is something I have only seen available in Toronto (in North America at least). I know people that travel across the country to try their lobster. If you have the money, I definitely recommend you come here at least once for the experience.
As someone that lives nearby, the restaurant is not as exciting but I'm still always looking forward to a meal here. Typically we order a combo (as those are more worth it than ordering individually) with at least 2lb of lobster per guest. Their combos typically include the same dishes, which are the sweet and sour pork, beef tenderloin cubes, and some greens. These dishes are AMAZING. I think it's because they really serve the same few dishes with every combo, they've perfected the taste of these. My dad said it's the best sweet and sour pork he's ever had, which Asians will know is a crazy compliment for a place that doesn't even specialize in dishes! For the lobster, we generally order the Hong Kong Style of cooking which comes in the Tower form that you'll probably be looking for. It's basically deep fried with some garlic flavor and you really can't go wrong with it. I've also tried the steamed version and egg yolk flavor, which were both fine.
We ordered king crab for the first time last month and it's definitely much pricier than lobster. I'd say I wouldn't order it again, because you'll be getting a lot less seafood for the same price - and it's not like lobster is too shabby! If you want to try king crab, the combo is not bad, but more lobster will always win in my books here.
My recommended combo for 5-6 people is the $268 lobster combo which includes all my favorite dishes. For more than 10 people, I'd recommend the Large Lobster Dinner for 8 which is charged at $27/lb with a minimum of 25lb. I typically spend $90-110 per person here after tax and tip. Please note they only accept cash or debit, so you won't be getting any credit card rewards with this likely $1000+ purchase. Finally, make sure you make a reservation! This place is popular any day of the week, I've never seen them take a walk-in. There's a deposit for the bigger tables, I think $100 per table that is applied to...
