Bhojan Ghar, an Indian-Nepalese restaurant on Danforth is a treasure that should be treated with TLC to ensure its longevity in the neighbourhood. My husband and I shared Tandoori Gobhi (cauliflower) for appetizer; a creamy chicken dish (don't remember the name), an order of steamed vegetable momos, and a basket of delicious naan. The portions were abundant for the two of us, served with vegetables and accompanied by sauces and chutneys (no rice to fill you up, but one can order on the side if desired). The flavours were delicate and balanced; the service was courteous, and the bill was reasonable (even with each of us ordering a beer and a martini....). We came close to 8pm - there weren't too many people, the music was calming and subdued, and we enjoyed being (for once!) in a restaurant in which we didn't have to yell across the table to hear each other. The owners take pride in their work and it shows - everything was clean, the food was fresh, the ambiance was pleasant, and we are looking forward to many...

We spent Valentine’s evening at Bhojan Ghar, where we were greeted by Isha with the warmest smile. Despite not having a reservation and the restaurant being full, we were kindly offered a seat at the bar while we waited. I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea, which was quite decent—I'd rate it 8.5/10.
Starters: For our starters, we ordered the Bhojan Ghar Platter. The mix of vegetable pakora, chicken pakora, and chutney was delightful. The aloo tikki could have been less oily, and the onion bhaji could use some improvement, but overall, I'd rate the starters 8/10.
Mains: Butter Naan: 10/10 Lamb Roganjosh: 7/10 Nepali Mutton Thali Set: 8.5/10
Throughout our dining experience, Isha checked in on us, ensuring everything was satisfactory. We were pleasantly surprised with complimentary hot gulab jamun, which was an unexpected treat—a perfect end to our meal. The welcoming and attentive service we received was outstanding, and I'd rate it a perfect 10/10.

Read moreI ordered eggplant bharta from this restaurant, a dish I’ve enjoyed many times at other places. However, when I tasted this version, it felt noticeably different—so much so that I couldn’t detect any of the usual smoky eggplant flavor. Curious and a bit confused, I called the restaurant to ask if there might have been a mistake. To their credit, they were very friendly and offered to remake the dish. I appreciated the gesture and went to pick up the new order then realized it was exactly the same. That’s when it clicked—it wasn’t a mistake; this must simply be their take on eggplant bharta. While it wasn’t quite what I was expecting, I respect that regional and restaurant-specific variations exist. The staff were courteous and willing to help, which I truly appreciated. Just a heads-up for anyone who’s used to a more traditional, smoky version of bharta—this one might surprise you....
