I was craving birria tacos one day at work and decided to pull out Uber Eats and see if there were any places nearby that didn't charge a delivery fee.
To my surprise, this place popped up and not only did it have high ratings on Yelp and Google, it was also SUPER close to me. I found out that it's actually right across the street from Ryerson at the World Food Market.
I placed an order for combo 2 which came with five tacos, a small consommé and one soda.
Picked up my box and hurriedly walked back to my building, opened the box and was pleasantly surprised that the tacos were big ones. Prior to ordering, I was miffed that they were charging an extra $1.50 just for cheese and also expected the tacos to be small because all the tacos I had down south in USA (near the Mexican border) were small. These tacos were nice and big (about twice the size of a normal taco).
In terms of taste, they were quite good! Definitely not as multi-layered in flavour as the quesabirria I had down south in California. They also use beef instead of goat here which is fine by me because the meat was still super tender. I do think they could've included more beef in each taco. The taco shells were properly dunked in the consummé and then grilled on the plancha.
For $30+ it is still definitely on the pricey side tbh, even considering the larger size of the tacos. I think for that price tag they can throw in 1 or 2 more tacos and a slightly bigger container of consummé. Also, their official website claims to have a multitude of sodas but when I ordered on uber eats, they literally only had 3 sodas to select from which was disappointing (I wanted coke zero which was shown on their official website).
+1 because they accept Amex.
Would reorder again if craving birria on a workday as there aren't many other options around at the moment but if a competitor comes along and decides to undercut them on the price per box (or simply has better flavour), I'm...
Read moreA taco joint locally famous for their birria tacos has had a rough start to 2022 after their brand new location was shut down by Toronto health inspectors.

The restaurant is still listed as closed on the City of Toronto DineSafe website but owner Lluvia Minton told blogTO they've been permitted to still operate at this location as a food truck since it uses a separate kitchen.
Further, Minton states that the issues with the health inspector stem from the need to change one of their sinks to one that has more depth and that they've already complied with the request and are now awaiting re-inspection.
In the meantime, the original location of Birria Catrina in Kensington Market...
Read moreSo there are plenty photos of food so no point in repeating. Overall Atmosphere. Blaze and confusing. Two stations as if two different restaurants. One is beverage and desserts and the other a Mexican taco joint. The first seems nothing special and when you order the beverages they really are not anything to write home about. But for a tourist wanting something quenching - sure why not?
For the Mexican Birria tacos, well this is a niche. There aren’t too many places I’m aware of that are making these types of tacos. Food taste good, seems fresh, portions are good but a little shy on the beef, seasoning is good as well, but price to value is not as good. Perhaps this is do to their overhead costs in the very popular and touristy local they are situated in? Either way, will I return - maybe on an impulse but not specially. The place also seemed to be lack luster - no energy. One person serving and felt quite empty. It’s...
