Update (June 12, 2021):
I went to Bomou again and tried the same exact items, and i am very happy to know i was right and that was a one time off issue. The Cheese, tomato and bacon bread was amazing, crispy, and fresh. The cranberry and turkey and brie croissant, was done with great quality ingredients and a very flaky and fresh croissant. i cant be happier to be proved right and have my faith in the quality of this establishment restored. I have to highly recommend this place for anyone wanting an authentic french baguette, amazing breads and desserts. helpful and friendly staff are also another bonus on top of great quality of products.
I used to love Bomou, amazing bread and i specially loved the sandwich (ham and cheese) they had that has been discontinued, but i am very disappointed that the last 2 times i have gone there recently, the quality has dropped significantly. the baguette still very good and i reckon one of the best in the city and still recommend, but the turkey and cheese croissant is very disappointing, with the old ham and cheese quality was not just the bread but also the ham and cheese were very good, in the last experience the turkey is store bought deli cuts (Walmart or no frills if i have to guess), and the cheese were put in as big chunk on one side and nothing on the other side and not that great of a cheese. i also bought on both occasions some of the cheddar bacon tomato bread and on both times found the bread to have burnt taste on the bottom (and not just corners which is normal of tiny burns), and bacon is almost non existent in the bread. i hope these are single incidents and not a measure of the whole operation, as mentioned i love this place and really wish they continue their amazing trade. i definitely will give it another go and hope to be proved wrong. Side note: i hope they also use tongs when putting items in the bag, the girl serving me today did not for the sandwich or the bread, usually i really don't care, but due to the times we live in, it just makes the customer feel a bit more at ease. i appreciate all your hard work and...
Read moreWarning for those with allergies: I would like to start by saying the girl who accidentally served me a non-gluten free cookie was very apologetic about the mistake. However, the manager should have handled the situation with more care. I had asked for a gluten free cookie but was accidentally given a sourdough cookie. The cookies look the same so I took a couple bites before realizing it wasn’t what I had ordered. I asked the staff which cookie I was given and it was confirmed that they gave me the wrong cookie. I explained that I have an allergy and had I been celiac, this could have had detrimental effects on my health. While the girl who served me was very apologetic, the manager seemed to brush off the fact that this could have been a far more serious situation and offered me compensation in the form of another cookie… to be fair, they refunded my cookie upon request. I was also told that the manager is also gluten free and that she was able to stomach the same type of cookie… Allergies affect people to varying degrees. What doesn’t hurt her stomach may very well hurt mine or worse. I did stay to finish my drink with my friends because for me - the effects of gluten do not kick in right away. (I am writing this review several hours later and I am in pain) The girl who served me the wrong cookie checked in on me to see if I was okay, which I appreciated. But this whole situation could have been handled with far more care...
Read moreOverall, very enjoyable!
My work friends told me that I had to try the patries from here, and I wasn't disappointed one bit!
Service was prompt and efficient, if a little on the guarded side.
The ambience was quiet, casual-yet-upscale (wut?), and very clean.
I got the following:
Caramel Apple Cookies: lovely crumb, slightly chewy, great caramel flavour, and the caramalized apples were buttery and not tart at all. 5/5
Canele (sorry I don't know how to put the accent thingy on my new kb :P): I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT ALL OF THEM. They had rum and earl gray, so I bought one of each. Slightly dense and chewy shell leading to an unctuous and creamy inside - think, like, crueller? French omelette? Anyways, YOU MUST GET THESE! !!
Raspberry Pistachio Croissant: not sure, but my dad ate it, and he liked it! :3
Apricot Refresher: Yoooo, this hit the spot! Strong apricot taste with lingering notes of vanilla. Very refreshing, very more-ish. Great job. Fantastic.
Shahzadeh: Meeehhh, twas okay. The taste was nice enough and the textures all worked well together, it just wasn't my cuppa. :P
Lovely experience overall! Will try everything else on the menu next time!...
