I visited Boston Pizza at 5170 Yonge Street to celebrate my son's 16th birthday with my other son, who is 14 years old, and my 16-year-old son who came from the southeast of the city to join us. We informed the staff about the occasion prior to parking the car in the parking. After we parked the car, upon arrival my older son was already there outside waiting for us. We entered the restaurant and chose a table. At that time, there were no other guests present. The menus were brought to us, but unfortunately, the staff lacked friendliness from the beginning. Communicating with the waiter was difficult, and she was unaware of the prices for add-ons. Nevertheless, we proceeded to place our orders. After approximately 25 minutes, our food arrived, but it was placed haphazardly on the table, without regard to the correct order. This was quite odd, as we're accustomed to receiving our own dishes directly in front of us. When I took my first bite of my gluten-free pizza, I was disappointed to find it was ice-cold, bordering on frozen. The crust, toppings, and overall temperature resembled a defrosted pizza from my own freezer at home. The waiter never checked on us to ensure our satisfaction or inquire if we needed anything. It seemed as though they had completely forgotten about us, even though the restaurant wasn't busy at all. In fact, we were the only guests for the first 30 minutes until two others arrived. I approached someone from the kitchen to express my concerns about the frozen pizza. Initially, they didn't believe me, so I encouraged the gentleman to touch the pizza crust himself. After doing so, he acknowledged the mistake and promised to prepare a new pizza, assuring me it wouldn't be included on the bill. However, I had to wait an additional 30 minutes and still no pizza arrived. By this time, my children had finished their large meals and were waiting for me. Frustrated, I decided to complain, and finally, they brought me the replacement pizza. Although it was no longer frozen, it still wasn't hot. The toppings were taken from fridge, and the crust was lukewarm at best. Nonetheless, it was an improvement from the previous experience. As we requested boxes for the considerable amount of leftovers, I began packing our food. The girl who was assisting us attempted to take the remaining food without clarifying if I wanted it discarded. I quickly informed her that I intended to take all the leftovers and did not wish to waste any food. However, a few moments later, I noticed that she had taken my half-eaten gluten-free pizza. When I asked her about it, she confirmed that she had taken it, believing I had given her permission when she asked if I wanted to take the food away. I was infuriated by the poor service, the subpar quality of the food, and the staff's lack of attentiveness. They were so forgetful that they even approached my son to inquire if he wanted the signature birthday brownie, despite us having explained the situation beforehand and try to make it a surprise. They should have simply brought the brownie without hesitation. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend anyone to visit this particular Boston Pizza location. We were left wondering why there were so few customers, but now I understand why. Their service is extremely lacking and leaves much...
Read moreWe were visiting Toronto for our 18th anniversary, staying nearby.
Boston Pizza is a bit of a tradition for us. On our wedding night, my wife and I ended up going to a boston pizza late in the evening, and have made it a bit of a tradition to go for our anniversary sometimes since.
Sunday was our anniversary, so we were hoping to have a special meal together to celebrate after a day of hiking. When we arrived, someone seated us at a dirty table. She brought menus, and told us our server would be out to serve us. He eventually came out. No greeting. Just "are you ready to order". We gave our order (including a gluten-free pizza), and other staff brought it out. Think he delivered the drinks. Was the last time we saw him till it was time for the bill. When our food came, my wife asked for a second drink. 20-30 minutes later, we flagged down another waitress since we had still not seen our own, and asked if the pizza was indeed gluten free, since it didn't taste like that. (either good gluten-free, or a mistake). Also asked about drink. Bartender brought out drink, apologizing (and comped second drink. Thanks!) Looking in the restaurant, I saw our server (who had completely ignored us all evening) talking it up with a customer at the bar, and I guess he saw me looking, so came to check on us. We asked for a box for leftovers, and the bill. He brought a box, and asked if we wanted anything else. We said, "the bill". His response: "I guess you'll want separate cheques?". Um... this was our 18th anniversary, although he didn't know because he'd avoided all conversation beyond "are you ready to order?" We informed him that it was together. That it was our anniversary. He seemed to kinda clue in that all wasn't right. Brought out a brownie with icecream for our anniversary. The gluten-based one that my wife couldn't eat. So an anniversary treat for only one of the members of the couple. When we pointed this out, he did offer to get the gluten-free one, but we were done at that point. Still was a nice enough touch that I tipped 7% rather than the generous 5% I'd planned for the complete lack of service we received. Oh -- the desert we received was piled on top of all the dirty dishes he'd not bothered to clear from out small table. So trying to eat it was rather awkward too.
All that to say, not particularly impressed with the service.
2 stars because the food itself was adequate.
I should note that we observed tables around us that were served by different servers did seem to receive reasonable service. So perhaps it was just our waiter.
Edit: we did fill out the customer survey form, and store management have followed up. Received some vouchers our local friend can use too. Thanks! Hope they're able to sort out their...
Read moreI visited this location on July 6 and unfortunately, it was a really disappointing experience — especially coming from a place I usually enjoy. We frequently go to the BP by Warden and Steeles and it’s always a good time.
We arrived for 7pm and had a reservation for six (though one friend couldn’t make it, so we were five), and upon arriving, we were seated at a dining table in the bar area. Since there were only two other tables occupied in that section, we politely asked to switch to a high-top table with a better view of the TVs. We were told we couldn’t because they “only have tables for four,” despite several tables for two having been pushed together. When I asked if we could combine another table to accommodate our group, the server (who seemed to be from the dining room side) made it unnecessarily complicated, saying she’d have to ask the manager and didn’t seem too happy about it. We weren’t rude and were thankful when it was finally approved, but we were definitely met with attitude and cold energy from then on. It made the whole situation feel unnecessarily difficult when the place was far from busy.
We were initially greeted by a one of the waitresses who worked at the bar and she offered us waters while we settled in. She was the only one who showed a genuinely kind attitude throughout the night.
We took a few minutes to catch up and chat before ordering, and soon another male server (with curly hair) came by and bluntly asked, “So are we going to order?” It wasn’t what he said, but how — the tone came off as impatient and dismissive, almost like we were being judged for taking a moment before ordering. It felt a little demeaning.
We eventually ordered four small pizzas and a pasta dish. The food took longer than expected, and during the meal, no one came by to check on us. No issues with the food but our water glasses stayed empty the entire night. Someone who seemed to be the manager (he was wearing purple that evening) came by to ask how things were going. Aside from that, we were left on our own. And for that reason, didn’t bother to continue ordering for the remainder of the night.
Overall, the service left a lot to be desired. With the exception of the one friendly server, the staff came off indifferent at best, and the general attitude was cold and unwelcoming. The only thing this restaurant has going for it is the prime location.
I come to this area often, but I won’t be returning to this restaurant again. It’s unfortunate I didn’t...
