Wow, what can I say about Bunmi... My visit here was on a whim, but wow oh wow am I ever happy that the universe brought me through these doors.
Let me begin by saying - I LOVE me a bahn mi. I've consumed far more than most people should in a lifetime; I've travelled far and wide for a bite of bahn. So lo and behold my surprise when I took a bite of Bunmi's take on this classic. Awe inspiring; life changing; the apotheosis of sandwich; just some of the phrases that emerged into my mind after that dip into this culinary experience.
This was rounded out by the unexpectedly incredible coconut, taro Vietnamese coffee. A cup o' coffee goes a long way in my books and that beautiful, purple slush made it only better. I'm not only energized, but enlightened by this gorgeous drink.
With each bite and sip, I experienced depths to my joy otherwise unexplored. Before I knew it - gone. That wonderful sandwich and painting of a drink had left me as soon as they arrived...
Looking to the purveyors of this fine establishment - so kind, with a wonderful smile if I may say so myself - I thanked them, knowing I'd be back.
Hard 9.5/10 - will be back!!
P.s. didn't have time to take a photo,...
Read moreI was hesitant of trying this place since it opened, being a bit of a Banh Mi / Vietnamese food snob, and seeing that their sandwiches appear a bit different than a traditional banh mi. I craved a banh mi and there are no banh mi shops closeby except this one, so I gave it a try. Boy was I missing out! I bought the Signature banh mi and it did not disappoint. There was plenty of well seasoned, juicy, tender meat. I usually don't prefer a LOT of do chua (pickled veggies), but their pickling liquid was nice and sweet, balancing out the other flavours so perfectly. Perfect amount of fresh chili peppers to burn my booty hole. The bread, which I thought was going to be the disappointment, happened to be the star of the show. It was so crusty, yet airy, and doesn't destroy the roof of your mouth. I don't know if they scoop out the bread interior but it never felt like "too much bread". The only thing I would've personally preferred was a bit more pate and mayo as I couldn't really taste it aside from the moisture it gave the sandwich. All in all, a fantastic, well balanced sandwich. Great portion size for the price. Will definitely come back to try...
Read moreEtobicoke finally has Vietnamese banh mi đ
We ordered a Cluck It Bao Bun (chicken), Peppa Mi (grilled pork) and Nem Nuong (grilled Vietnamese sausage) Banh Mi for the food and they were all delicious with great portion, a bit of a fusion style though with not-your-typical authentic sauce for banh mi.
The Coco Joe (coconut coffee) and Salted Beans (the trendy salted coffee) were also good and big. They mix coconut juice in the sugarcane juice so a bit bland to our liking so next time we will ask for just sugarcane if possible.
We came on their second day of soft opening and right when they opened so maybe thatâs why the drinks took a bit long to make. The banh mi as a result sat there, wrapped after grilled so became a little chewy and cold. I would prefer if they use the baguette bag with an open end to avoid it. Other than that, great staff and services. 5 stars for the effort with new opening. Definitely will come...
