I wanted to give this place a try since I have lived in North York for 20 years and never tried this place. I wanted to give an honest reveiw since I feel like ALL North York restaurants have been going downhill in recent years.
We need more people honestly reviewing these restaurants so quality can be improved upon.
I give this place a 2-3 stars. It wasn't anything amazing. The beef tasted like mystery meat and it did not seem too clean or fresh on the inside of the reataurant. The food felt thrown together and not gourmet or worth my money. I'd rather pay $10 at The Keg for a small appetizer than the low quality for what I ordered.
The fries tasted frozen previously and the smell of the interior was dingy and dusty. I like the old feel of restaurants but this one wasn't old per se, it was more lacking care or cleanliness and standards.
The smell of the place made me worried about the quality of the food.
So as for trying this place after years of curiosity, I was disappointed by the lacking quality. It felt just like garbage food and lacking care.
Why are places like this in business and yet the good places close down? Where are all the skilled chefs to give eating at restaurants and takeaway joints a good quality and healthy option nowadays? Where are all the European people who can cook? Wasn't this where the old Greek-owned John Anderson's was?
I miss restaurants where Greeks and Italians owned them in the early 2000's because they were skilled cooks and gave quality to restaurantship.
It is disappointing now to see the decline of restaurants and authentic Mexican/Spanish food as well.
This is my review of Burrito Place. Hopefully North York can clean up its act and increase quality for the price we pay to live here in this expensive neighbourhood. Let me ask you, what is the point of living here and working to pay for our houses if the food in the area sucks? There is no where to eat and enjoy the fruits of our labours?
I will be reviewing other North York restaurants. Stay tuned for my upcoming lengthy and...
Read moreTried this local place for first time and not impressed at all. Hygiene was lacking (no hair nets and only main guy wearing gloves), and food was sub par at best. Ordered a burrito (light spice and beans) for Mi Lady and 2 chicken tacos (soft) and 2 beef tacos (hard) for myself. The burrito was spicy from first bite and filled with beans. We split it open to try to eat around the hot sauce puddle and had difficulty finding the meat and other non-bean goodness. 2 tacos for $8 seems reasonable, but the tacos were less than half full with ingredients. 4 tacos for $16 and not belly-bursting full after wasn't impressive at all. Also, I ended up with 4 soft tacos, which was disappointing as I wanted to try a classic beef hard taco, but will have to satisfy that craving some other time and place. I suggest trying Amigos Latin Flavour or La Mexicana; both much better, 100% authentic, and you GET what you pay for, not just helping owner to cover exorbitant rent at...
Read moreI'm not sure why this place doesn't receive more attention because it's certainly worth the visit. I haven't had the opportunity to come here sober yet; but I haven't been inebriated enough to not enjoy the quality of the food from this place. Compare to Burrito Boys, this place definitely outclasses them. The quality of the food from the wrap, vegetable toppings, the meat, and the sauces have been carefully selected to ensure that the customer enjoys something that is good - all the time. I've visited about a dozen times late at night and they are consistently good...almost to a fault! I've had the chicken and steak burrito, the shrimp burrito, the steak burrito (alone) and their tacos and I've not been disappointed. They took over the spot that used to be Johnny Andersen's and it's tucked away quietly enough to not be noticed. The staff here are very friendly and they have always been great with...
