My recent visit to Cafe X Bica was nothing short of horrendous. From the moment we stepped in, it was evident that this cafe prioritizes a specific aesthetic over inclusivity and customer service, creating a hostile environment for anyone who doesn't fit their narrow mold.
The cafe's aesthetic seems tailored to the bland, uninspiring lifestyle often glorified on social media, particularly Instagram. This focus on appearance appeared to extend beyond decor into their treatment of customers. Service, it seems, is excellent only if you conform to a certain demographic—specifically, if you are a cis white individual. As a social worker, I hoped this cafe would offer a welcoming space for myself, my client, and my colleague, who is a person of color. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by blatant discrimination.
Upon entering, we were immediately asked if we planned to use a laptop. Apparently, laptop users are relegated to the less desirable back of the cafe to preserve the front-of-house aesthetic. I needed my laptop to assist my client with a medical form, and when I began using it, a server promptly approached and instructed me to put it away or disconnect the keyboard. This enforcement was not applied universally, as evidenced by the preferential treatment two blonde, white women received—they were seated at a table designated for larger groups, despite being only two, simply because they were taking product photos for Instagram.
This disparate treatment left me feeling marginalized and deeply uncomfortable. It's disheartening that establishments like Cafe X Bica perpetuate such microaggressions without reflection or corrective action. As a social worker, I advocate for anti-oppressive and anti-racist practices, and it's clear that Cafe X Bica has much work to do in these areas.
In conclusion, my visit to Cafe X Bica was a stark reminder of the pervasive discrimination that can permeate seemingly innocuous spaces. I urge Cafe X Bica, and similar establishments, to engage in meaningful introspection and adopt policies that promote inclusivity and respect for all customers, regardless of race or appearance. Discrimination has no place in any business that claims to serve the public, and until Cafe X Bica addresses these issues, I cannot recommend it to anyone seeking a welcoming and...

Read moreMe and my sister were in the area and decided to stop by since I have heard about this café. It was so cute inside, I love the décor and the vibe. There was no wait time for us on a Sunday afternoon and we had a seat as soon as we came in. Our server was kind and helpful. There wasn't as many baked goods since we came in later in the day. I ordered a spinach feta empanada and cappuccino. The empanada was okay but I wish it was a bit more warmed up and had more feta. The cappuccino with chocolate was amazing! My sister only ordered a cappuccino with oat milk since she is vegan and unfortunately they do not have any vegan items on their menu. We tried to call before we came to ask if they had any vegan items but they have no phone number on their website or google page. At the end I decided to take some sweet baked goods home, and they were alright. I like that it is not overpowered with sweetness but I think since I ate them the next day they were not as fresh. I would come back here if I was in the area, but I wouldn't drive far to...
