We normally go to Ding Tai Fung on Hwy #7 instead of the Scarborough location. I tried this restaurant in Oct 2016 and wasn't happy with the food (too much MSG used). My sister said that we should try this restaurant again and see if the kitchen has made any improvement after 2 years.
I have to say that I remain disappointed with the food. Everything was greasy and salty! The kitchen used too much oil in all the food we ordered: The Steamed Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) was salty for my taste. Pan-fried Pork Buns had tiny piece of meat inside. The taste was ok. Green onion Pancake was the best of all the food we ordered (again, very oily!) Braised Beef noodles in soup was ok. Stewed Beef Pancake Warp was too salty and oily. My sister's didn't feel well with her stomach after eating this wrap. My sister can cook better stewed beef than the chef there. Shanghai-Style Fried Rice Cake was below average. My son said he prefers the fried rice cake I made at home. Red Bean Pancakes (dessert) was also very oily. We had to use napkins to absorb the oil before eating. Our stomach was full of oil and didn't manage to finish the dessert.
I don't think I will go back to this restaurant. (I don't understand why this restaurant received better review than the one at Hwy #7.) The decoration was good and lots of space between tables. (Also note that the kitchen staff making dumplings didn't wear any masks to cover...

⭐ Xiao Long Bao (Steamed Soup Dumplings with Pork Filling): thin and not-too-sticky skin juicy meat filling
⭐ Dan Dan Noodles (Soup Noodle with Spicy and Peanut Sauce): great bouncy noodle texture peanut powder gets mixed with the soup, creating a thick nutty and lightly spicy soup
⭐ Deep-Fried Pork Chop Noodle in Soup: super crispy pork cutlet really juicy and tender meat! pork chops usually are a bit dry but this one was remarkably great noodles are a little chewier than the dandan one, just a slightly different style but was still great comes with an egg and a whole pile of pickled vegetables
Hot and Sour Soup: quite strong in flavour, both in sour and spice
Pan-Fried Pork Buns: this was the only miss from us: the bun was really thick especially at the top and the bottom was not crispy enough meat filling was fine, not as juicy as the soup dumplings
Overall had mostly really good dishes. Price is a little higher than your regular Chinese restaurant, (almost $12 for 6 xiaolongbao now!), and I recognize that this is actually a "knockoff" from the real brand, but if you're craving Shanghai food this is a great place to go. Has 10%...

This is a fairly large restaurant good for small or large parties. It was fairly busy for dinner on a weekend but was seated right away.
Here you'll find Taiwanese staples like Dan Dan noodles, beef noodle soup and their signature soup dumplings. In the back you'll see them wrapping the dumplings through the glass window.
I ordered the hot and sour soup, beef noodle soup, soup dumplings and pancake beef rolls. The favourites for the evening were the soup dumplings as they have a nicely thin wrapper with juicy filling inside. And the pancake beef rolls were nice too. The pancakes were nice and flaky with enough beef in each bite. I'm generally not a fan of hot and sour soup, but to get it right, one needs to balance these two flavours which I think they did. The beef noodle soup wasn't anything special.
Service was quick and friendly. I'd...
