I dropped by Dosa Boys on a whim over the weekend, and they had a special banana leaf veg and non-veg feast on the menu. The front desk host was really pushing everyone to try the feast, which is fine, but the way they hyped it up was way over the top compared to what was actually served. I’m familiar with these unlimited food gimmicks, so I wasn’t too interested, but my friend insisted, so I went along with it.
As you can see in the picture, we got a salty pickle, sweet mango chutney (which I’ve never heard of before), cucumber curry, potato curry, chicken 65, and chicken biryani. I was honestly puzzled that this was what they were calling a 'NON-VEG FEAST.' The curries weren't even worth $2, to be honest. They initially promised 3 desserts but ended up serving us a watery payasam, plain vanilla ice cream, and, wait for it—a BANANA as dessert. Seriously, since when did a banana become a dessert?
Overall, they charged us $26 each for this so-called feast, which wasn’t even remotely worth it. As someone from South India, I know how banana leaf meals should be done, and this was just for show—none of the food was served hot, which defeats the whole purpose of using banana leaves. It felt like they were just using the banana leaf as a gimmick to attract South Indian customers. The staff was polite, but the food itself wasn’t worth trying. Honestly, you’re better off ordering a starter and a biryani for a fraction of the price. Don’t fall for this trap. If you want an authentic banana leaf feast, head over to Amma’s Kitchen in Etobicoke. Totally worth the money. Everything I mentioned is 100% true, no exaggeration
P.S.: First off, stop labeling this as a Tamilnadu-style feast because it’s far from authentic Tamil cuisine. It’s really frustrating to see Tamil food being misrepresented like this. How can you possibly justify charging $26 for what you served? And seriously, calling a banana a dessert? That’s just ridiculous. Did you even check the quality of the chicken curry you’re serving with parotta? Instead of making excuses, just accept the truth and improve your food. I get that it’s a business, not a free meal giveaway, but even if you offered me a free invite for this so-called banana feast, I wouldn’t be interested. Focus on making your food better instead of being jealous of other restaurants that are doing it right. Also, why do we have to choose between chicken biryani or mutton biryani? Why not serve both? And honestly, neither of them was even good. I've been to Dakshin where they serve authentic biryani—try it once, and you’ll see what real quality is. Maybe then you'll accept the truth
P.S: Before replying me , don't hesitate to check with your host, who said at the last you'll be served with three desserts and the kesar is given as starting sweet. Learn the meaning of dessert - sweet food eaten at the end of a meal which is the same thing she mentioned. And sir, where did you mention Tamilnadu Wedding Feast? Could you please attach that pic here?
And regarding "FYI, it’s not either chicken or mutton, it’s both chicken and mutton unlimited and we serve both if customers asks." dare to accept the truth. It's the same server who said we need to choose chicken or mutton biryani. For which, one of us chose chicken and other chose mutton.
You're saying it'sTamil food in one statement and saying we haven't termed it as tamil food in one statement where you're contradicting your own statements.
At the end, I want just people to know about the FEAST...
