New review:
It's been over 2 months since my last visit. I decided to give it another shot. Although the layout and the sound issues remain (not much they can do about it really), the service has significantly improved. The food prices are the same, but tastes better, not sure if it's a result of a new / different chef. They updated their mussel broths, and they're fantastic. Their beer is still a solid average, but all in all I think this place is coming along well, and it's only going to get better.

Old review: This place is nice, but in what world is it 5 stars (BlogTO review as of 2017-08-17)?
The menu is very limited and over priced, which in of itself isn't a bad thing, but it's just not great either. The food is fine, the chefs do a good job, but the portions are small for the price. The brewed beer is okay and decently priced, but it's not going to be the first thing I think of when buying cans for a party at home. The space is trendy yes, but that doesn't equal good either - it gets loud, fast. There's no soft surface anywhere so you get an echo, which booms louder the more people are speaking - and for your mates sitting just across from you to hear you, you'll need to speak louder to drown out the rest. Before you know it, you're all yelling at each other. That is of course if you aren't the poor chums sitting at the bar directly in front of the kitchen while the chef sears steaks over a hot fire just two arms lengths across from you. The servers are very nice, kind people, but they're not that great at the job. 5 times we've gone, and each time they've missed an order, gave us the wrong food, or had us wait a long time. The last time we went it was on a Tuesday for the $5 mussels and drought, which is a fantastic deal. We were given a menu with the special mussel slip, and seated. The server got our drink orders, returned with them timely. But when we ordered the mussels she said they had run out a while ago.... How do you not tell us you ran out of the special of the day until after we ordered the drinks.
Look, I sound like I'm nagging, and maybe I am a bit, but I'm pissed at how easy people throw stars at restaurants just because they're a bit trendy. It's a fine restaurant, and it'll only get better I'm sure, but at the moment, it doesn't warrant a 5/5 on BlogTO, or even the 4.change on Google reviews. People need...
Read moreWent here last night with a couple of friends. The beer selection was good and there were some interesting choices! The prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was lively. We also shared the queso dip which was small but only 5 dollars so can't really complain. It was tasty but what I found strange was that it was served cold. I've never experienced a queso dip that was cold before and personally I wouldn't want to again. Didn't try anything else on the menu but there were a lot of options that sounded good.
My only complaint about this place would be the server we experienced. The service was very quick and our beers and dip came out fast but sadly the server we had was quite rude when we stated an issue. My two friends had order two different beers, when sampling each others beers they realized they were the same beers. No big deal it happens so we told the server. My friend shared with him that they looked the exact same which the server replied in a rude manor "a lot of beers look the same". Then my friend continued to say but they taste the same too. The server then said "well they're not the same beer" and then walked away. He didn't look at the beers or anything. He made us feel as if we clearly have no idea what we were talking about and then walked away without giving us the time of day. And hey, maybe we were wrong but it was the way he handled it that really bothered us.
Overall, I liked this brewery and will go again. My rating will not reflect the servers bad attitude but if you see this or this is shared with you, sir, please next time be a little kinder...
Read moreI came down from Newmarket to meet someone at a highly recommended cocktail lounge down the street on my birthday. I was paralyzed 2 years ago in an accident, so use a wheelchair. I made sure to call the previous week to ask if they were accessible and told yes. I drove by once I finally got down there because A) it's raining and B) I have learned not to trust establishments when they say this. There was a very large curb I couldn't pop in the front, so I called and was informed they threw out their ramp as it broke but could help me in. After parking and rolling to the front in the pouring rain, I called back, and the response was that of a deer in headlights. They did say they were coming to help me pop the curb, but after over 10 minutes of hanging in the rain, I couldn't wait longer. Every place had a similar curb, and in the rain, I was giving up hope.
Then I saw Eastbound Brewing Company. Not only was it extremely accessible but the staff were incredibly accommodating, and everyone was super nice. The atmosphere is very nice and relaxing. The entire place was designed with accessibility in mind with a very great accessible bathroom. I work in the financial district and live in Newmarket but will make a point to come back here to support this business and highly recommend it to everyone. Not only are they an incredibly welcoming establishment for all with well thought out design, but they turned a very bad night into a very good night....
