The best Hot and Sour Soup in all of GTA. I am sure there are many contenders, but this one is perfect.
The balance between hot and sour touches the face of God; it strikes perfection, and the notes in between: the carrots, the parsley, and everything else; is a complimentary treasure that you seek out, as you work your way through the complexity and richness of hot and sour. The depth, the emotion, the delivery is there, and every time you eat this soup new notes emerge. This soup is the Freddie Mercury of Hot and Sour. It's perfect in every way and every time.
This soup is for everyone.
Lovers of hot, will find it hot; lovers of sour, will find it sour. But neither hot nor sour are overwhelming; they are there, constant. Those who stray away from hot or sour, will find this soup… perfect.
It is as if this soup had a mind of its own and knew you. It knows your wants; hot plays on the sour, and the sour plays of the hot, and you want more, and drool for more.
The restaurant is a jewel, but it is also a threatened specie on the endangered list. Since the day the Sherway Gardens Mall, across the street, upgraded, many off the mill chow hall chains opened up in the vicinity and the folk eat there: marketing, bells and whistles win, but you miss the real jewel. This is a well-established house, a legacy of the bygone foodie era. Visit, before it is gone. It...
Read moreI would leave less than 1 star if I could. Writing this review as I leave this establishment and I vow to never return. Decided to try this since I live across the street and the reviews of great service enticed me to come here. Nothing could prepare me for what was to come. We were met with ZERO acknowledgment of our presence. We had to seat ourselves. At 8pm on a Saturday night, the restaurant had only 2 tables occupied. Yet, the owner/boss lady did not even turn to greet us. Her daughter dropped off 2 menus on our table and left. We tried to get her attention and the boss lady reluctantly returned to take our order. We ordered an appetizer to share and two entrees. She did not even say hi, or say anything as we ordered. When I told her I was done, she rolled her eyes and just walked away. Never in my life have I been treated in such a dismissive manner, nor have I ever felt so unwelcomed in an establishment. I was so shocked by the treatment I was left speechless. At that point, my partner could not stomach the disrespect and we simply cancelled our orders and left. I will NEVER,...
Read moreMy friend and I went to sherway gardens mall and were starving. We were craving Asian cuisine and Fresh Rolls was nearby. The restaurant was almost empty when we arrived, but the server welcomed us warmly. We perused the menu, chose siu mai as appetizers, and grilled pork for my friend, and Beef MoFun for myself. The Sui mai was great; it comes with soy sauce and Sriracha. It was not undercooked. My friend enjoyed his Grilled pork dish, and so did I. I wolved down my beef MoFun and wished for (but did not get) seconds. The serving size was sufficient for the price, and the food was delicious. This is not a fast food place, but the food arrived in a timely manner (not that I'd have noticed if it arrived later as I was discussing with my friend). We had their mango smoothie to drink, and was great to wash the entree down. All in all, based on what we ordered, how pleasant the waitress was, the ambience of the place, this place deserves more than the 4.1 stars it currently has. Definitely...
