I promised the person that served me to let him know of my thoughts after I ate his food. I decided to leave a google review first and then tell him my thoughts in person. There are many signs where someone can tell the restaurant is really good and these signs rightly can make people excited. The first thing I can clearly see when I entered the restaurant was how the customers were telling me how good the food is here. The 2nd thing that I noticed was when the server gave me the food with a big smile and huge confidence. Lastly, the smell, the smell of the food was so good, I couldn't wait to try it. We got the island sodas along with the a large oxtail meal for myself and a medium curry goat for my girlfriend because of the google reviews, and the reviewers were not lying. The meat is so tender you don't need a knife, the meat falls off the bone. I tried many Jamaican Oxtails and I was never satisfied because of how hard it was to get the meat off the bone, but the oxtail was so tender that I didn't have to put any force on my plastic fork and the meat just fell off. The tenderness is one thing but there's so much flavor in the oxtail that you can keep licking the bone for ten times and you will still taste the flavor. The flavor sunk deep within the bones of both the oxtail and the curry goat. For me, the meat was very delicious but a great Carribbean restaurant must nail the rice and peas, you got to have that nice soft texture of the rice and the peas or beans needs to be soft as well and the taste should bring a good sweetness without mixing the rice with any gravy, and this restaurant checked all of the boxes. It's not easy to make a good rice and making good rice is something that many restaruants can over look and not pay attention, but this restaurant clearly didn't over look and paid attention to make a good quality rice and peas. The cole slaw was so creamy and the salad with a combination of lettuce and cucumber was so refreshing that these vegetables truly brought balance to the meal and it was absolutely amazing. This restaurant was the first time in my life where even the bone had rich flavor and made me enjoy having bones since the oxtail had good collagen and some bits of tendons in it. My girlfriend loved the curry goat and enjoyed both the salad, coleslaw and the rice and peas too.
People don't underestimate some small restaurants that is hard to find, and please come to this restaurant, you will know why it's rated 4.8 out of 5, I think it should be 5 out of 5 but that's just me! I can't wait to go back to the restaurant and try...
Read moreHonest review won’t say this is the worst Jamaican restaurant I’ve been to because it has potential but here are my 3 reasons I won’t be going back
Restaurant is always closed Despite the hours listed don’t count on this place being open. Went to get lunch a handful of times only to find out it was closed.
If you are ordering food to go check before leaving I ordered the fry chicken twice now, just to get home and find jerk chicken I wouldn’t be mad if the jerk was good but that was the worst thing I ever ate. Mind you the owner handed me the bag saying large fry chicken knowing it wasn’t.
They don’t make / plate the food right in front of you makes me wonder how fresh the food really is
Overall experience was very disappointing I want nothing more than to have a great Jamaican spot close to home. The fry chicken was actually pretty good and I would love to support the business but the overall lack of care, lack of effort and lack off consistency makes me never want...
Read moreIt was by the grace of God I found this little gem not too far from my work. The wide variety of available items on the menu had my mouth watering, there were just too many choices to choose from (which means I will definitely be a returning customer so I can partake of each item). I chose to go with the snapper, it wasn't available though, only because its made FRESH TO ORDER. That was even better news to me, because now I can call ahead and order to have it ready to pickup or dine in. I opted to go with the OXTAIL, which was very moist, fall off the bone and was complemented well with the fresh salad and coleslaw. There are also a wide variety of tropical cold beverages available (also beers, etc.) As a kicker, they also serve porridge in the morning which is my go-to feel good, feel full, breakfast to get you through the day. I highly recommend Goldstar Caribbean...
