Friday, October 25, 2024 Evening (Dinner) I was excited to experience a new, proudly Kurdish, restaurant. There appeared to be dine in seating, of up to 22 people. Kurmanji songs, playing in the background. Clean, vibrant, and well lit ambiance. My friend and I ordered head and foot soup (Kelle Paça), beef döner plate, beef döner lahmacun wrap, lahmacun, and Kurdish sushi. Head and Foot Soup (Kelle Paça): I've had this dish at Iranian restaurants, and never enjoyed them. I longed for the taste, how the Kurds make it. It was delicious. The right portion of salt, meat, and broth. Pairs well with nana sele (bread). The aroma is inviting, while each spoonful wraps you in warmth, making it the perfect companion for chilly days. Beef Donër Plate: Nothing unique. It was okay. I've spoiled myself, by having donër in Germany, that is considered even better, than in Kurdistan. Beef Donër Lahmacun: You won't find this on the menu. This is a custom order, I like to have, to see how the two work together. Fortunately, it was nearly perfect. Thin lahmacun is the ideal way to go, and topped with Beef Donër, makes it a satiating bite. Would've enjoyed it more, if it had a bit more tomato paste to it. Lahmacun: Thin, crispy, and light. That's the way it's meant to be prepared. Only a small amount of the juices drip, which indicate the right portions used, of the ingrediants. Kurdish Sushi: This was my first time, trying this dish. I had heard it mentioned on several occassions, and it did not disappoint. The crunchiness of the lettuce, carrot and the sauce for a gentle touch, made it delightful. Update: Friday December 14, 2024 (Dinner) Had the Iskender Kebab for the first time here. It was surprisingly, delicious. I've had it at several other restaurants, and none tasted as good as this. This is my personal opinion. I really enjoyed the taste of the tomato sauce, yogurt, and of course, the charred, mild ripened tomato, and hot pepper. This is specifically a Kurdish tradition, and a very popular way of enjoying said vegetables, and others, such as eggplant, onion, and mushrooms.

I stopped by Hayal Kurdish Cigkofte Restaurant for the first time and was immediately struck by the warmth of the place. A mother and daughter were running everything — the mother cooking in the back, and the daughter taking orders and serving. They were both so kind and welcoming, happy to explain the menu and even gave me a sample of their çiğ köfte to try — which was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Ali Nazik kebab (also called Alinazik), and honestly, I might order it every time I come back. It’s such a comforting, craveable dish — smoky eggplant purée mixed with yoghurt, topped with tender lamb stew. It’s creamy and rich but still feels fresh and balanced. I believe it’s traditionally served with rice pilaf, but I enjoyed it just as it was, straight from the plate with a fork. I also had the dolmas, which were wrapped nice and thin just the way I like them — and they were super flavourful. I also tried the acılı ezme which was super refreshing and had a great little kick. Everything was homemade, and you could feel the care behind the food. I’m already looking forward to going back. Highly recommend if you're looking for something real and made with heart.

I can confidently say this is one of the best food experiences I’ve had in Toronto. The mantı was absolutely outstanding – perfectly cooked, with rich flavors that tasted truly homemade. The kelle paça soup was by far the best I’ve ever had, served hot and full of authentic flavor. The mumbar was extraordinary, prepared with such care that every bite was delicious, and the stuffed grape leaves with meat were simply unforgettable. Honestly, every single dish we tried was prepared to perfection, and even the drinks complemented the meals beautifully.

What makes this place even more special is that it’s not just about the food – it’s about the whole experience. It’s rare to find a restaurant that captures the soul of Kurdish cuisine this well, with dishes that feel both authentic and comforting. It reminded me of home-cooked meals, full of warmth and tradition.

And of course, I must mention the owner, Ms. Şükran. She is such a wonderful person – warm, welcoming, and truly a great host. She treats her guests not just like customers, but like family, creating an atmosphere that is both inviting and genuine. It’s clear she pours her heart into this restaurant, and it shows in every detail.

If you are in Toronto and want to experience authentic Kurdish food at its very best, this is the place to go. From the food to the atmosphere to the hospitality, everything was exceptional. Highly...

I had such an amazing experience here in Toronto, and it truly exceeded my expectations. The lamb kebab was cooked to perfection – juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The kelodoş was simply outstanding, a traditional Kurdish dish that was rich, hearty, and absolutely delicious. The içli köfte was another highlight: crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside. Even the lentil soup was comforting and full of depth, the kind of dish that warms you from the inside out. To finish off, the baklava was fresh, flaky, and just the right amount of sweet.

What impressed me most was that every dish tasted authentic, just like homemade food prepared with love and tradition. This is truly the best representation of Kurdish cuisine I’ve had in Toronto – hearty, flavorful, and made with care.

On top of the food, the hospitality was unmatched. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the owner,Ms. Şükran , is such a kind-hearted person. She goes above and beyond to make sure every guest feels special. Her warm personality and professionalism make this place stand out as not just a restaurant, but a real cultural experience.

If you are looking for authentic, high-quality Kurdish food in Toronto, this is the spot. From the kebabs to the kelodoş to the desserts, everything was simply incredible. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates true flavor and genuine...
