I had House of Gourmet for the first time last week at a friend’s place, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. We ordered around 1 or 1:30 in the morning, and honestly, I wasn’t expecting much. But what we got was a full-on fiesta — every single dish was incredible. The quality? Next level.
I couldn’t stop thinking about that meal all week, so after a brutal day yesterday I treated myself and re-created the whole spread through Uber Eats.
So last night, after a tough day, I said, “You know what? I’ve been dreaming about that food all week. I’m ordering it again.” And I did — the exact same dishes, even though it wasn’t cheap because I ordered a lot for one person. But the prices are affordable. And you know what? It was worth every penny: the order arrived hot, fresh, and just as good as the first time.
I’m just one person, but I ordered a feast and portioned it all into little Tupperwares to freeze and enjoy throughout the week. That’s how much I love this food. What really impressed me is how carefully they handle special requests. I asked them to leave a few things out, and they actually listened—respect goes a long way.
I also want to shout out the amazing customer service. They actually removed the ingredients I asked them to — no attitude, no mistakes — just real care for their customer. That kind of respect goes a long way with me.
So here’s my must-try list: • Shrimp spring rolls — crispy, light, and addictive • Jumbo fried shrimp — juicy and crunchy perfection • Deep fried rice — packed with flavor, not greasy • Sweet and sour chicken — exactly what it should be: crispy, tangy, and comforting • Skinny noodles with beef on top — absolutely divine
I ordered through Uber Eats in the middle of the night. If you’ve spent years settling for fast-food at midnight, do yourself a favour and order from House of Gourmet instead. Real flavour, real portions, and real care for their customers. And I live far from them, and tryst me*everything arrived hot, fresh, and super fast. I’m honestly kicking myself that I’ve lived in Canada for over 16 years and never tried this place until now.
If you’re someone who usually resorts to late-night fast food, listen up: you can have real, flavourful food in the middle of the night. Food that actually feels like a home-cooked meal. i recommend!
Thank you, House of Gourmet, for making such amazing food and for treating your customers with care. You’ve got a fan for life.
I have one suggestion: make the sirloin meat able to be bought with the skinny noodles.. 🍜

Read moreLast night, I had the pleasure of dining at House of Gourmet on Dundas St., West in Toronto, and it was nothing short of a culinary delight! Venturing out around midnight, I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem bustling with energy yet welcoming with available seating.
The moment we entered, we were greeted by the vibrancy of the place. The restaurant’s cleanliness was immediately apparent, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The lighting struck a perfect balance between bright and cozy, enhancing the overall ambiance.
What really stood out was the service. Our server was not only friendly but also remarkably efficient. Despite the crowd, we were quickly seated and attended to with genuine kindness and attentiveness.
As a group of six, we opted for the ‘meal for six’ - a decision we didn’t regret. This feast included an array of dishes: sumptuous soup, flavorful chow, perfectly fried rice, delectable sweet-and-sour pork and beef, creamy mayo tofu, tender beef with broccoli, crispy spring rolls, and a mouth-watering eggplant dish. Each item was a testament to the culinary prowess of the chefs, and the portions were just right for our group.
Every bite was a flavor explosion, satisfying and delightful. The food didn’t just meet our late-night cravings; it turned our meal into a memorable experience.
House of Gourmet is not just a restaurant; it’s a haven for food lovers seeking quality and taste. Its ability to provide such an extraordinary dining experience, especially at such a late hour, is commendable.
I wholeheartedly recommend House of Gourmet to anyone in the Toronto area. Whether you’re wrapping up a late night or just in the mood for excellent Chinese cuisine, this place is a must-visit. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to relive the...
Read moreDined here on a busy rainy Sunday night while I was in the Chinatown area. This Cantonese cuisine based restaurant did not disappoint us and it might actually be our go-to spot for late night eats in downtown Toronto.
Despite the busy crowd, the staff here were genuinely friendly and did their best to make our dining experience a pleasant one.
We ordered the XO Seafood Stir Fried Yee Mian (a well recommended replacement of the sold out rice noodles), Singapore style fried turnip cakes and fried shrimp dumplings.
As a Singaporean, I appreciated the waitress’ honesty in letting me know beforehand that the “Singapore Style turnip cakes” at $9.99 + tax is not going to be the “Chye Tow Kway - Carrot Cake” that’s prevalent in Singapore, but rather a similar equivalent of it. Nevertheless, the crispness of the turnip cakes packed with high heat wok hei and garlic heavy crunch was impressive.
The XO stir fried seafood noodles took a while to arrive at our table but it was worth the wait. At $15 + tax, we got a seizable portion with generous servings of shrimp, squid, vegetables and even 2 scallops in it. Despite the XO flavouring on the milder side, the dish was savoured well on that rainy night.
Unconventionally, our 7 pieces of shrimp dumplings arrived last, even though it was ordered as an appetizer. Nevertheless, they were huge pieces of dumplings with crispy edges, which arrived freshly fried with filled stuffings of shrimps and mushrooms in them.
Overall, the bill came to about $42 (inclusive of taxes) for all the 3 dishes that could have easily fed 3 people, or maybe 4.
I will be back at House of Gourmet to try many other dishes from their...
