Disappointing Dining Experience at Iqbal's North York Location
On Saturday, December 30th, I visited Iqbal's North York location for dinner, prompted by the closure of the Thorncliffe branch. Unfortunately, the evening was marred by a series of disappointing events: Order Error and Substitution: We ordered 2 paya dishes, nan, mogo, and plain rice, amounting to $54.85 in cash. Upon reaching our table, we realized that the cashier had mistakenly punched in Nihari instead of paya. When we informed her of the error, she explained that they were out of paya. Opting to cancel the order, we chose 2 plates of Beef ribs and fries in addition to the mogo. Delayed and Unsatisfactory Food: Despite the long wait, only the mogo was served promptly. However, the beef ribs were significantly delayed. Upon arrival, the ribs were disappointingly cold, dry, and chewy—far from our expectations. Regrettably, we decided not to consume the dish. Poor Service and Communication: We also ordered plain dal with nan, a transaction totaling $12.45 in cash. Despite our multiple requests for onions, chilies, and lemon, it took three reminders, and on the fourth occasion, I had to personally approach the staff. It's important to note that the restaurant was not particularly busy during this time, raising concerns about the competence of their service. Comparison with Thorncliffe Location: This experience highlighted a significant disparity in service between the Thorncliffe and North York locations. Unfortunately, based on the service received, I cannot recommend the North York location, and I have no intention of returning. In conclusion, this visit to Iqbal's North York was a great disappointment, and I hope that this feedback contributes to improvements in their...
Read moreWe went in around 10am to get the breakfast special . The restaurant was empty so we seated ourselves at a table for 4 with the permission of receptionist . While we were having our food the waitress/receptionist asked us to move tables since there was a 7 member party expected to arrive . Out of courtesy our whole family moved to another table . While moving the plates one of the plate fell and we lost most of the food to this move . Disappointed with the incident we reach out to the waitress and tell her that moving tables wasn’t required since the “expected” party hadn’t arrived yet and expecting that with the food dropped if we could get a replacement or a polite acknowledgment . She said we chose to move and dropped her plate so there’s no reason to share feedback . We asked to speak with the owner but looks like the kitchen manager showed up saying that since we paid the bill they can’t compensate us but he acknowledged the bad customer service . This is one of the classic cases of where customer just needs an acknowledgment of the bad service but restaurants have hired such egoistic unprofessional staff that they don’t bother to speak to the situation . We understand Iqbal serves niche products and may have a very loyal customer base but if they try to work on customer service skills and hiring better people I feel the community can...
Read moreAwful service: very rude and disrespectful staff. Charged me $80 for food and the staff refused to give a take out container and bag unless they extort 25 cents for each container. If I ordered take out they would have given me a container, but if you dine in, they want to take the rice in your hands and pockets. Have some class and respect for paying customers! NEVER RETURNING TO THIS CLASSLESS DUMP! The staff even say they need to charge because they don’t have a service fee - what service?? Signs on the wall say the place is self-service. Go somewhere else that respects customers and is clean! When asked to speak to the manager, the guy refused to escalate and call the manager - what a bunch of cowards. People deserve better at this price. Fine dining costs the same and you actually leave happy. I hope these people close down for such poor and disrespectful customer service!!! What restaurant in the entire city charges for take out containers?? So to steal 50 cents for 2 containers, you choose to lose customers that spend $80...
