We went out for dinner at Isaan Der at 730 Queen St. East on Sunday October 24th, after 7:30pm and waited about 30 minutes to be waited on. After another lengthy wait the food was served with the smell of over heated Canola oil. We could not eat it and requested it be taken away untouched due to digestive problems with deep fried food. We did not notice on the menu that Spring Rolls were deep fried and Fresh Rolls were not. The waitress kindly brought us the Fresh Rolls that we could eat. Later the manager came to our table and hassled us to pay for the food we were unable to eat. The grilled short ribs were marinated in canola oil which we could not eat either. The manager emphatically insisted we pay for the deep fried spring rolls, bringing us a menu to prove to us that she was right and that it said on the menu that it was deep fried. This was a very disagreeable confrontation that destroyed any good feeling we had upon entering the restaurant. After she stared at my husband with hostility he asked her sincerely, "Do you not want us to come back?" She turned to me and said, "you are the most difficult customer I have ever dealt with!" The irony is that we meant to stay for a few drinks, which were good enough but we left right away because this manager would not let go of an $11 dish that had to go straight in the garbage. We even paid for the food we did not eat and did not have the drinks we intended to have...The woman who was so confrontational about it said I'm not just the manager, I am the a owner, "a partner", and then said that we can call her business partner, "Donald" with any complaints. The number she gave us was a fake number. Yes!...

From the moment you step inside, the charming aesthetic sets the stage for a delightful meal. Our recent visit was made even more memorable by our server, Jay. He was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, offering fantastic recommendations from the menu. Jay's passion for authentic Thai cuisine shone through as he explained how each dish is true to different regions in Thailand, adding a wonderful educational element to our meal. We started with the fried spring rolls, which were an absolute delight. Crispy and perfectly cooked, they came with a delicious sweet and spicy sauce that perfectly complemented their savory filling. For our main courses, we chose the chicken pad see ew, which was wonderfully flavorful. Jay thoughtfully brought over traditional condiments that are typically enjoyed with the dish – a touch of authenticity we hadn't experienced at other Thai restaurants. We also savored the beef pad grapao, a spicy and incredibly delicious dish that delivered on its promise of heat and flavor. Overall, Isaan Der - Thai Kitchen stands out for its fantastic food, cute aesthetic, and, most importantly, its wonderful staff. If you're looking for an authentic Thai culinary journey with exceptional service, Isaan Der is...
Read moreCame here for a birthday party with 15 people. Food was decent. Service was ok but none of us expected anything above average. To our shock, when the bill arrived it had an automatic 25% gratuity added. We asked because the menu and website clearly states 18% for groups of 6 or more. Server told us that for 10 or more if I recall correctly, they charge 20% and since we had more than 15 people the mandatory tip is 25%. We were puzzled by this explanation but didn't debate it as we were there for a friend's birthday and bit the bullet to not ruin the evening. But how do you charge 25% gratuity without telling anyone beforehand? Your menu clearly states the 18% for 6 or more but nothing about it increasing based on other criteria (see my picture below) . Having a tip that is 25% of my total bill is absolutely ridiculous! At least for 25% we should have been allowed to have individual bills, but even for that we had to split 15 people into 3 bills and again the service was mediocre with missing drinks, no napkins and water served extremely late. We made no fuss during our visit and in retrospect should have because of the total lack of tipping transparency. Just poor business practices all around. I'll never come back and want people to know your money is better spent for your party at another establishment, unless you're ok with your bills growing by a surprise 25% at the end of...
