I was in the area by chance and requested my travelling companions to think of somewhere to eat before we head East to Pickering. Immediately my vegan friends started singing the praises of this establishment. I was not disappointed at all. The location is snugly nestled on Pharmacy Ave in a little plaza in the corner. For such a small place, the vibe was large. The order, Extra Large! And the flavor? Triple Extra Large! Big portions and flavours, great value too! I truly felt each food item packed such depth and range of Jamaican flavors yet light & fresh. My biggest suprise was the Tofu BBQ that had me fooled! It looked and felt and tasted like a BBQ Chicken stir-fry. The taste and texture was unbelievable! I thought it was chicken! The chickpeas, cabbage, quinoa and Salad topping were so delicious and such a wonderful contrast of savory mixed with fresh ingredients. I was wondering where is the condiments for the salad toppings? But once I mixed the plate and took my first bite, I knew immediately there was no need for any dressing. The savory aspects IS THE DRESSING!. It complimented and coated the greens perfectly! Now how do you compliment the dish? I washed my meal down with freshly made pineapple ginger juice. Dessert? Well I had to take a Pineapple Tart to go of course. Now, whomever baked those, their hands were blessed by Jah for sure! Overall, I was extremely pleasantly surprised and so satisfyingly full, but most of all..my tastebuds were singing! I am a foodie @torontotastebud and I am seriously contemplating becoming vegan because I never thought vegan food could really satisfy my soul....and Ital Vital has proved this carnivore wrong. Will be back 100% to take pictures and...
Read moreI don’t usually make reviews unless I am extremely disappointed, and I find all these positive reviews very misleading. This is my first experience ordering from this restaurant. I ordered the “beef” burger, which was described on Uber eats as being “a grilled plant based burger with a healthy bun and vegetables on top”. The bun was like any other bun you’d find at a fast food restaurant. I was expecting the bun to be “healthy” like described. It’s a regular fast food processed bun that you’d find anywhere else. Second, they put a pinch of lettuce on it. Literally a pinch. And a slice of tomato. Thirdly, I special ordered to swap regular fries with sweet potato and I got regular fries. The cauliflower wings were soggy because it was breaded but looks like it was deep fried a long time ago and sat out. Mind you, I was only 10 minutes drive from this location so it shouldn’t be room temperature and soggy. There was absolutely nothing special about this meal to make it worth the insane price. And considering this is a vegan restaurant I’d expect more fresh veggies in the burger. This sandwich looks like it was made out of spite. Anyways, if you want to get a healthy vegan burger you won’t get it here. Might as well go to any fast food chain and swap the patty with a beyond meat. I only ordered from here because I was craving a burger but wanted to still be somewhat healthy and the reviews were good....
Read moreMy first time there... we arrived a little late and thought it might be closed but it turns out they were open till 6pm, later than google stated. We ordered a large order which was enough for two people it had a rice base and gave us a sampling of the other dishes they were serving... squash, beans, potato curry, chick peas curry and a bit of salad. We also ordered some mock chicken sticks.... all of it was delicious!!! The staff were friendly and we loved the Caribbean vibe they create inside and out. I did bit of research after the experience and was thrilled about the philosophy behind it all.
Ital, a variation on 'vital', is a belief system, compulsory in the Nyabinghi Mansion of Rastafari, which dictates that its followers should eat food grown from the earth around them - unmodified. Typically, it's a plant-based diet.
... leans more towards the spiritual aspect of eating naturally. The idea is to promote livity – life energy.
Rastas would live in the hills of Jamaica and eat what grew from the earth around them. This is Ital. It’s about eating high-vibration foods. Processed meats and foods have a low-vibration, which your conscience takes on when consumed. If a whole society is living from this mass-produced stuff, it affects culture, public consciousness.
Thank you Ital Vital. I will definitely be...
