My first visit to Floga was as part of a celebration of life in honour of a relative.
I had heard good things about this place, so I was expecting a positive experience and I wasn't disappointed.
As soon as I entered the front door, I saw an older Greek looking gentleman and instantly knew he was the owner. He was just to be to aware of all details and attentive to everything to be anything but the owner. So, I introduced myself to George and asked if I could have a picture with him. Hence, the Octopus, which is proudly displayed in one of the pictures for your benefit.
The decor is basic and arm, with a european feel based on wood frame and kissed with a hint of elegance brought about by the use of wall enclaves, individually lit.
The spacious layout, well equipped bar, and efficiently designed components add to the sense that the operator is not only experienced, but also focused on providing a pleasant customer experience.
If you are health conscious, I suggest you don't order the fried breaded sole. It is delicious, but extremely oily and has more breadcrumbs than fish. The chicken with tsasiki sauce is definitely my preferred dish. Also, the pita bread with eggplant dip.or humus is very tasty. The salad was well dressed and fresh. The garlic bread was delicious, but I prefer more garlic and also tomato chunks, like Italian bruschetta. I would love to work on some dish suggestions with the owner and maybe pick up some tips along the way.
The reason I didn't give 5 stars for service is because we had two waitresses. The Greek one was good, but the other one was short with me and made a sarcastic remark she shouldn't have made in front of group I was sitting with. But, she looked like she had a rough life and looked tired. Still, that's no excuse, and that sort of thing does take from the experience.
I do plan to go back to try the Octopus and also give the waitress a second chance. After all, shouldn't everyone have a second chance? I may adjust my ratings based on my next visit, stay tuned.
The venue is easy to get to and close to highway 401 ramp. I suggest you either drive straight off the ramp onto William Ketchum and follow it up to Progress Avenue, where you can turn right and then turn left before reaching Kennedy road. Otherwise, you'll have to turn left at progress where there is traffic approaching the intersection and also waiting to turn left. You're welcome.
This is a great place for a group gathering, family dinner, or even meeting. If you go with a romantic date, be sure to pick a table in a quiet section, preferably by the window. The open space carries sound, such as laughter. Yup, there was...
Read moreHi...All of this following (poor) review does not speak to all servers or staff that stepped in to assist my table. Particularly, the gentleman who assisted my tables server, he had tattoos on his arms -- much appreciation to him. He was personable. He was attentive.
My review :
My sister called to arrange a reservation for a group of 12. We spoke to the restaurant just hours before our reservation to update for times sake on the day of our reservation because we were coming to Floga after a funeral at the Greek church and the church had previous scheduling delays today -- so, responsibly, we communicated that to this restaurant. Girl on the phone at that time was super polite, friendly and accommodating -- good customer service. HOWEVER ** great customer service would know to inform your guests (like myself/group) that for our knowledge as this is a big deal, floga was hosting a baptism reception of 100 guests or something and seated my group of 12, off to the side, divided by a 3 panel "room divider" next to this reception group. It was loud as heck in there. As common sense would grant me, I understand the majority of the serving staff was delegated to the big party. And this is why GREAT customer service would have you inform your guests so they can choose to be an educated guest and therefore decide to not reserve seats at your establishment.
Okay, issue #2... and it's big.
My groups table was divided into 5 bills. I know you bill per seat number. Guess what humans do ? Move around. Be personable. People are coming to your establishment by choice, to enjoy a meal with family. ITS A GREEK RESTAURANT. What are you expecting here ? Expect your guests to be socializing with their table. I'd rather not watch my server grow frustrated because we've moved to sit next to someone else at our table because we cannot hear them over your 100 patron reservation.
Issue #3 and it's bigger than huge.
We had 5 bills. Every single bill was pushing $100 and there was a bill or 2 over that. Every bill was paid separately and therefore tipped accordingly. SO, PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME* where on this planet called Earth, was the individual trained there to confront my family member and requesting a minimum of 18% gratuity????? You haven't even done your end of shift tip out, ma'am. Please, allow me to pull out all 12 chairs at that table and you can have your several...
Read moreWhile the atmosphere and food were good, the service was really horrendous. I went there today with my friend for our monthly dinner outing and we selected this restaurant based on the google reviews and its proximity to the Scarborough Town Centre. Although we were greeted by our server (the lady with the big eye lashes) very quickly after sitting down, things then started to go downhill from there. Our food was served by other servers (not the one that introduced herself as being our server) and not once where we asked how the food was by anybody. We had to flag down someone that was not our server to ask for water refills and extra sauce; I received a refill of water eventually but never received the extra sauce I had requested. Even though our server kept walking by our table many times and seeing dirty dishes sitting there, it took her over 20 minutes after we finished our meal to actually acknowledge us and then asked us how our meal was 20 minutes after we finished eating it. We were originally thinking of getting a dessert but decided against it as it could take another hour for that to arrive at the table. Although my friend and I were at a table of 2, the tables that were receiving the most attention were the tables where 6 or more people were sitting at them (I guess the key to service is to go with 6 or more family or friends where they feel the tip is higher). After my friend and I received our bill, the server could not even wait at our table for us to finish paying and left us to figure out the credit card machine ourselves. Thankfully I was able to figure out how to use the credit card machine or we would have been there another 20 minutes since our server did not seem to interested in helping us at all. Another restaurant employee actually took the credit card machine away from us after WE figured out how to pay our own bill. Even when we left, the two hostesses at the front were too busy talking to each other that they did not even acknowledge that we were even leaving to say goodbye or see you soon. Nothing. If you are going for the food, the food was hot, fresh and generally good. But be warned, expect a cold welcome and the general feeling that you are bothering the staff by even showing up there in the...
