Bawarchi is a great addition to the Scarborough food scene. Especially adding a unique dimension to the South Asian flare available on this part of the town. There are lot of Sri Lankan take out places, South Indian staples such as Saravanabhavan or Karaikudi, but Bawarchi adds the Andhra/Telangana (Indian states) variety that you rarely find even in Canada. Also Mississauga/Brampton areas usually get the best of the Indian food scene in the GTA, therefore a East-End addition is greatly appreciated!
Note: Bawarchi is a popular Andhra/Telangana chain in the USA with over 50 locations across various states.
Service: It started off really well. The host helped us choose some great dishes and guided us well through the whole experience. But once the crowd increased I think they became a bit stretched, hence the personal attention lagged a bit. But this is minor.
Food: We ordered the Sambar Soup, Avakai Idli (mango idli), Veg Dum Biriyani, Gongura ( a type of leaf) Veg Biriyani Bhagara Bhaigan (egg plant curry), Amaravati Royyala Kura (Shrimp special) and the Kulfi special. We had no complaints about any of them but our favorites were Avakai Idli - nice tangy/spicy dish that set the tone right, the Egg Plant curry which had a great mix of spices that was top notch and the Biriyanis which were done right. The spice levels might be a bit overwhelming fora person who is not used to it. So maybe there have to adjust it a bit if they want to attract a non-South Asian clientele. The kulfi (Indian pistachio ice cream) was a surprise that the portion size was huge even for a table of three especially after a heavy meal. But the flavors were amazing!
Ambience: The restaurant felt a bit too dark for my liking but didn't really affect my overall experience.
Value: Absolutely great value for money. The Biriyanis, each, can easily feed 2 people fully, and even three. The Egg Plant/Shrimp curries come with either a choice of Naan bread or rice which again is great value for money. The portion sizes are above average and the prices are affordable
Verdict: Absolutely loved this place and I am definitely going back. A wide variety of items to choose from and would take few visits to try them all. A great addition to the Toronto/Scarborough food scene. Hope that the food quality is maintained for the...
Read moreI ordered take out from Bawarchi Biryanis for the first time on New Years Eve 2021. The food was good, UNTIL... I had the butter chicken in which I found a very long PIECE OF PLASTIC in the food. (See pic for reference).
I did not want to leave a bad review at first because I enjoyed the food initially before I discovered it was cooked with a piece of plastic (which honestly reminds me of the plastic wrapping for plastic cutlery. WHY WAS IT IN THE BUTTER CHICKEN? I'm honestly disgusted.
I had initially contacted the restaurant for an explanation via email on January 3, 2021 and also called to follow up. But they ignored my concerns, therefore I felt like it was necessary to make it public, since I'm not sure if 1. Whether it was cooked with the butter chicken (which is a food & safety concern because plastic melts in high heat, especially when it not plastic treated for cooking) or 2. HOW did the plastic end up in the container of butter chicken AFTER it was cooked?
This is definitely a Food Safety concern therefore any future/returning customers should be aware of my personal experience since I am still traumatized by this experience.
On January 20, 2021 - In response to the owner's comment, the rice was home cooked not purchased (therefore irrelevant). On the plate though were only the other stews that I got from your place. Kindly see attached receipt to decipher which one it was. Regarding what sort of plastic it was, I mentioned what it REMINDED me of and never said it was in fact plastic from cutlery, nonetheless it was still plastic in your dish.
The purpose of my review and email was to inform you that there was plastic in your restaurant's food. I honestly do not need anything but an explanation and an apology for insinuating that I am lying. (As you can see in the attached photos I have tipped put of goodwill on a takeout order) Frankly, it does me no good to defame your...

Review: My recent experience at Bawarchi Biryanis left me deeply disappointed and unwell. While some dishes in our group order were satisfactory, I cannot overlook the severe consequences I faced after consuming the Mutton Roast appetizer.
At first bite, the Mutton Roast seemed delicious, well-seasoned, and inviting. Little did I know that my joy would be short-lived. Shortly after finishing the meal, I started experiencing discomfort, and within hours, I fell ill. Regrettably, it became apparent that the food was stale, and it wreaked havoc on my digestive system.
For three agonizing days, I endured the consequences of consuming that dish. My health was compromised, and it took a considerable toll on my well-being. I am still in the process of recovery.
Such a lack of food quality and hygiene standards is unacceptable, especially in a place that claims to provide enjoyable dining experiences. I had hoped for better, but my unfortunate encounter with their Mutton Roast has left me with nothing but regret.
I strongly advise caution to anyone considering dining at Bawarchi Biryanis. While some dishes may taste great, the inconsistency in quality is concerning, and the potential health risks are not worth taking. The management should prioritize the health and well-being of their customers by implementing stricter quality control measures.
In light of my experience, I cannot recommend Bawarchi Biryanis to others. It is essential for diners to be cautious and mindful of the potential risks associated with consuming...
