Really upset about a recent experience here. We sometimes stop here for dessert and last week we bought some cookies (3-4 pieces) and baklava (4 pieces). The guy behind the counter weighed it and then told my husband it was $9. My husband wanted to make sure he heard him right and asked him to clarify and the guy said $19. My husband and I both looked at each other in surprise because it seemed so expensive for such a small amount of baked goods. Nonetheless my husband paid him $20. The guy turned off the weighing scale and didn’t give us a receipt. As we were walking back to our car, my husband decided to turn back and ask the guy to weigh the food again just to be sure — the scale showed that it was only $9 altogether. My husband told him that he gave him $20 because he charged us $19. I think the guy tried to argue that he didn’t, and that my husband only gave him $10. Another employee came by and must have told the guy to give my husband the $10. This time my husband asked for a receipt. I want to believe this was an honest mistake but even I heard the guy say $19 and I definitely reacted because I thought that was rather expensive. The bakery items here are fine so no issues there but I wanted to share my experience, which happened on October 11. The situation made us feel like we were being unreasonable and had nothing better to do than to try to get $10 from a local business. Why turn off the weighing scale? Please, your customers deserve better than this. Lesson learned — always ask for a receipt. I’m all for supporting local businesses but this was truly...
Read moreGot the chicken shawarma with everything in it for takeout.
As expected from a non-middle eastern restaurant, it did not taste authentic. I think part of the reason was they added veggies that aren't traditionally in a shawarma, such as mushrooms, olives, and cucumbers. There was also tahina sauce in it, which is usually only in a falafel wrap so that threw the taste off as well. Last, the pita was more like a roti than a middle eastern pita and that definitely changed the taste too.
Overlooking that it did not taste like a real shawarma, the wrap tasted okay. I liked the flavour of the chicken and garlic sauce. It was also very filling and much bigger than a normal wrap in most places. As far as I could tell, all ingredients were also fresh. I'd say its a good, healthy buy if you're very hungry and want to keep your bill under $10 and don't care too much about the...
Read moreStaff thoughfulness made a returning customer of me after only my first visit to the bakery, just to browse. I asked about a specific flatbread and the guy pointed to the bakery's fresh Afghan bread - asked if I'd had it before. I said no and in a second he handed me a still warm, full-sized sample for me to leave with. If you're in the area and need some baked goods, try to stop in. He's made a customer out of me. Next visit...their restaurant. Thanks to the guy who...
