Consulate General of Romania in Toronto — Local services in Toronto

I used the Services of the Romanian Consulate from Toronto three times within the last year. Today again; Let me state that with no doubt, they exceeded my expectations! again and again!!! From the booking of the appointment, which is done on Internet - very clear and helpful, I would say USER FRIENDLY! - took not more than a week to obtain the appointment. The fact that everything went perfect is just due to the VERY HIGH level of PROFESSIONALISM which the public servants from the Romanian Consulate Toronto displayed during our visit; My wife and I were very impressed about their knowledge and willingness to assist us, and for sure to do the things RIGHT. A year ago when we were there for similar documents, we were able to use those documents successfully, and we did not have any issue when we presented the signed power of attorneys to the Romanian Institutions from Romania. Today was absolutely the same: we downloaded a draft of some of the documents, and at the Consulate, the Consul in Person, Ms. Gherghe, read and analyzed the legality of the draft. She advised us in a very logical manner about the best way to do everything. We found at the Romanian Consulate from Toronto VERY PROFESSIONAL and KNOWLEADGEABLE personnel. They clearly showed us that they are there to SERVE US in a GOOD FAITH and by respecting the Romanian legislation. In this manner, they raised clearly the CONFIDENCE in the PRODUCTS and SERVICES of the Romanian Consulate from Toronto. It was a very nice experience and we cannot be more pleased about their OUTSTANDING KIND and ATTENTIVE assistance. Many THANKS! We are very grateful for the outstanding good service which the Consulate personnel offered us...

Terrible service and customer care. Not only is there a huge difference between the official information and what they actually say at the consulate, but they also refused to issue a certificate despite having a valid power of attorney. The male employee was extremely rude, arrogant, and acted as if he were above everyone else — yelling at visitors and even scaring a 3-year-old child. Such behavior is absolutely unacceptable, especially in Canada.

The only positive moment was the female security guard, who kindly helped distract my child and was genuinely friendly. Thank you to her.

Update: Thank you for your reply. I would like to clarify one important point. At no time did I raise my voice toward any of the Consulate staff. I responded in the same manner and tone in which I was addressed.

I fully respect the work of the Consulate and understand the importance of following legal procedures. However, I also believe that communication between staff and visitors should remain professional and courteous on both sides, and I made every effort to ensure this during my visit.

In preparation, I carefully reviewed the instructions published on the official website. Unfortunately, the information available was not sufficiently clear regarding my specific situation. Furthermore, the econsulat.ro platform does not provide information in English. As a non-Romanian citizen residing in Canada, this made it particularly difficult for me to fully understand the requirements before attending the Consulate. This is why I brought the power of attorney as I did. I hope this clarification can help improve the accessibility and clarity of guidance for applicants facing similar cases...

Aug.2020 (rating 5 stars): My experience I had today with the Romanian Consul (Mr. Alexandru Trifu) was excellent. A professional man willing to help those who are in need of services of the Romanian Consulate. Thank you Mr. Trifu! One customer at a time will make a difference.

Oct.21, 2020 (rating zero stars): I am unable to contact the Consulate. I have tried through both telephone and email. The phones are always on a busy line, no VM capability, and the email sent almost 20 days ago is still not answered (Today I sent again another email to toronto.consul@mae.com with the hope that this time I'll get a response). Unable to contact Mr. Trifu on his phone as well.

Oct.27, 2020 (rating: three stars): Still unable to contact the Consulate I had no other option than going there. After driving 40 km (one way) I managed to speak for 1 minute with a gentlemen who explained that he is alone and occasionally someone from Ottawa comes and helps him. He is processing the online requests but they are very much behind. Now he is processing the online requests from June 2020. He told me that he cannot schedule me earlier even in emergencies, because (as the romanian word goes) "everyone has an emergency" and I should wait for an email that will come when my request will be processed. He was unable to provide me even an estimated date. And of course I had to go back home another 40 km to wait, hope and keep wondering why the Romanian Consulate doesn't hire more people (Toronto is full of romanian citizens who are looking for jobs)

Based on my experience so far I keep the Rating at 3 stars. There is still hope! I'll keep...
