I've been going to Kibo Sushi for years, and it's been my go-to spot in the Annex for a long time. However, my recent experiences have left much to be desired. Last Saturday, I ordered the Sushi & Maki Combo B for pick-up, looking forward to the usual quality. This was not just a shocking oversight but also a serious health and safety issue with a potential choking hazard. However, when we got home, we discovered that the sushi rolls with fake crab were still wrapped in plastic. It was a shocking oversight, and we had to take the order back to have it remade. While they did apologize and remake the order, no effort was made to compensate for the inconvenience of having to make an extra trip to the restaurant.

This isn’t the first time I’ve had issues with Kibo. A few months ago, I placed an order and specifically requested that the vegetable rolls be packed separately for my vegetarian friend. Despite these clear instructions, everything was packed in one box. Again, they apologized and remade the order, but there was no acknowledgment of the inconvenience caused.

I’ve always enjoyed the taste of Kibo's sushi, but the recent decline in both quality and service, coupled with the lack of effort to make things right, is hard to ignore. It’s also worth mentioning that Kibo has multiple locations in the city, and my friends have noted that the quality of food and service can vary between locations. Unfortunately, it seems like you’re taking a chance with the Annex location. It’s disappointing to see a place I once loved slipping like this. I’m not sure if I’ll be returning anytime soon.

If anyone has recommendations for good sushi spots in the Annex area, I’d love...

This place was amazing!!! We were a party of three (two adults, one child) and got the love boat for 2 which came with soup and salad, seafood pancake, tempura, edamame, sashimi and sushi rolls. That would’ve been plenty of food for us to share, but they also had a buck-a-shuck special, so we got one and a half dozen. The restaurant also gave us complimentary yam fries and I really liked the oyster pancake so we got another serving.

The sushi was very fresh and tasty. The oysters came with 4 sauces but the kiddo and I just liked our tried and true lemon+horseradish mix. Or maybe the sauces just didn’t stand out to me enough. The oysters themselves were neatly shucked and a decent size.

The tempura was one of the best I’ve had in Toronto. The batter was light, so it didn’t feel like the shrimp and veggies was coated in heavy oil. The tempura sauce was really good as well. It was the perfect blend of salty with a hint of sweetness, and didn’t taste watered down (which I find other restaurants do).

All of us really enjoyed our meal and we will...

The sushi here is good but the restaurant layout and service are lacking. I tried the spicy chicken karage which was delicious but you don’t have any side plates so it’s difficult to share with your group. We didn’t order any drinks and opted for water. However, we kept running out because they use wine bottles as a water vessel for some reason. The bottles don’t hold that much and the servers don’t refill it that often so we kind of had to ration the water at one point. The space with the booths is really cramped so don’t talk too loudly because you can hear other people right beside you. When I finished the combo the used cutting board sat on the table for a good 15 min I think. No one wants to look at dirty dishes while they are trying to have a conversation. Maybe it was cause we had few a sushi left on another plate but they could have easily cleared the dirty dishes. The combos are good value but there are plenty of other better and affordable sushi places...
