Ok so besides it being a vibe as soon as you walk in, the food is incredible. A lot of times, people who work at hot spots in Toronto are a little snooty but I didn’t get even the slightest bit of that here. Everyone was so sweet, kind and available with a smile. Understanding, accommodating and let me just start talking about the food!!! Another thing that caught me by surprise was how good the food truly is here. I came for brunch once before Covid, when I got eggs Benedict with peameal bacon and I still remember it being really really good. At 10oclock at night on a Saturday in Toronto it’s either vibes OR quality food but I was pleasantly surprised to say that this place had both. We had a taste of pretty much everything on the menu because we were a group of 6 and pleased to announce nothing disappointed!! The pesto cream sauce chicken pasta was delicate and delicious. The braised lamb shank was flavourful and satisfying. The potato goat cheese croquettes were just divine! Crispy, fluffy paired with tasty sauces and hearty!! The dumpling soup was soooo perfect for a really cold night, the dumplings were fresh and flavourful. The buttermilk calamari were, I think the best calamari I have had in the city. So juicy and tender!!!! but also crispy on the outside!!! I’ve never had the perfect calamari until having them here. The chicken pot pie was delicious, the crust was the best part I wish there was more!!! The fish and chips were amazing, the Korean chicken sandwich was yummy and the chicken and waffles was the first dish to be cleared!! The chocolate cake was more of a fudge style cake, it doesn’t seem to have any flour but it was sooooo decadent. The cheesecake was supreme and my favourite part was that I asked for fresh strawberries on top. They didn’t just put one or two little pieces, they put, what I think, is the perfect amount where I could have three or four fresh (they were so full of strawberries flavour I remembered why I even like strawberries) strawberry chunks with every single bite of cheesecake until the whole slice was finished. Literally heaven on earth. Thank you insomnia for making food wishes truly...
Read moreThis place is terrible! I genuinely don’t know how people with taste buds eat here. Nothing about this experience was good. Firstly, their latte’s are fake. Literally just coffee & milk. No effort put into it. Secondly, our server straight up lied us about the menu! We asked whether the omelette was made with powdered eggs and she said they were made with real eggs. We received the omelette and it was clearly powdered eggs. I brought this up to her and she was arguing back, trying to convince me that they were real. Smh. Eggs Benedict was the worst I’ve ever had. These ppl cook with no salt, pepper, or any other spice nor seasoning. The “home fries” come lathered in ketchup. Why would you drown home fries in ketchup? Can’t I dip my home fry in ketchup myself? The place is dirty and the floor is falling apart. Overall WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. I don’t know how this place has such high ratings on Google. REPLY TO THE BUSINESS' RESPONSE: The business noted that I have issued many similarly rated reviews and they think there may be a broader issue at play. I agree: The broader issue at play is that there are so many restaurants that charge a ridiculous amount of money for food that is objectively poor. Poor quality ingredients, poor recipe, and poorly executed. On the other hand, I have also issued great reviews-- for great experiences. The business noted that they removed the omelette from my bill. Thanks-- I would expect that you would remove it, but that doesn't mean that in my review, I wouldn't note that the eggs were powdered eggs, which the server lied about initially. People need to know what they are putting into their bodies and should be able to choose whether or not they want to eat powdered eggs. The business noted "signature tomato-based, roasted garlic and caramelized onions, “legendary sauce”"..... this is not true, the server confirmed that it was ketchup when I asked about it after trying some. The business made a comment about how I didn't tip the server. Tipping is optional, and no patron of any establishment should be made to feel obligated or guilted into tipping. I personally only tip for great...
Read moreWe stopped by Insomnia Restaurant & Lounge for brunch and had such a wonderful experience. Everything from the food to the atmosphere was just right relaxed, cozy, and welcoming. We ordered a variety of brunch items along with some fresh fruit and coffee, and everything was absolutely delicious. The fruit was fresh and vibrant, and each dish was beautifully prepared with care and attention to detail.
The coffee deserves a special mention it was brewed perfectly, rich and aromatic, with that comforting depth you want on a weekend morning. You could tell they take pride in the quality of what they serve, and it really shows in every sip and bite.
The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. The service felt natural and warm, adding to the overall relaxed vibe of the place.
There were a good number of tables available, but I’d definitely recommend booking in advance, as it fills up pretty quickly, especially during brunch hours. The restaurant seems to have built a great reputation, and it’s easy to see why the food, the service, and the atmosphere all come together effortlessly.
The lounge seating was another highlight. It’s cozy and comfortable, perfect for long conversations or just hanging out with friends and family. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty brunch, a laid back coffee outing, or a casual get together, Insomnia has the right kind of charm that makes you want to linger a little longer.
Overall, it’s a fantastic spot that delivers on both quality and experience. I’ll definitely be coming back again next time, maybe for dinner or late night drinks. Highly recommend it if you’re looking for a place that combines great food, great energy, and a genuinely inviting...
