Toronto is blessed with perhaps the worlds best cinema house devoted to the art of documentary film making; Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema. It has been our go to entertainment destination for years. My partner is a silver member and with that goes various nice perks. There are other levels of membership; all including discounts on various events etc. and free popcorn. I highly recommend purchasing a membership which helps support the organization develop not only film programming but also their Curious Minds & Authors Talks. You can also take advantage of Hot Docs At Home and stream many of these docs and lectures Their amenities are geared to everyone; it’s wheelchair accessible and a special app is available for those with hearing issues. Washrooms on two levels; the lobby level WC accommodates wheelchairs.

I love this Theatre previously known as the Bloor Cinema for second run movies. I love that they kept it's nostalgic dim lighting and warm cozy feeling throughout the conema. The balcony and orchestra levels give unobstructed views of the screen. I'd recommend seating anywhere past row G in orchestra level for a movie. The screen is generous. The sound is good for a small theatre. The posted pic of the screen is from the first row in the first balcony. Friendly helpful staff and volunteers make this venue a warm nostalgic movie cinema experience. There are many restaurants in the area from Ghazale (SHWARMA), and a variety of pubs such as Victory Cafe. Excellent documentaries.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT - KEANU REEVES "I remember there was a beautiful, wonderful cinema in Toronto called the Bloor Street Cinema... I remember summer nights just riding my bike, locking my bike up and going into a movie, they had salty good popcorn and I'd just chill out." The photo of Keanu was taken in the 1970's. Keanu also frequented the Bloor Street Cinema when he skipped drama class in high school in Toronto. His drama teachers at the time were not pleased with him. Little did they know, in later years Keanu Reeves would come to this very theater to present films in which he stared. Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema was of course formerly the Bloor Street Cinema.

I have supported this venue for the last 3-5 years by subscribing to them on a yearly basis and have always enjoyed my visit. I have watched numerous movies, all documentaries (my favourite genre) and always learned something new.

I like this old style theatre. This one has seats that are old style but comfortable. I have my usual favourite spot to sit which is on the second floor.

I always purchased the bronze subscription but they recently informed subscribers of a discount for renewals. Since then, I have renewed my subscription and upgraded to silver.

I have brought my mom to watch the Beatles documentary on one occasion and also two friends on two separate occasions (documentary on dogs being trained to lead the blind; documentary on the Come From Away show) to watch a movie as I had a few free passes in my subscription.

The theatre reopened a few weeks ago but since then has closed again due to the second wave of COVID19.

So far this year I have watched two documentaries. I will be watching a few more in the next few days.

I also have to comment that the staff and volunteers there are nice and always helpful. The area where this venue is is my favourite place for shopping and...

I've been a member since 2019 and love the unique films and intimate setting offered here. During the pandemic, the online movies were a great option over the Netflix content churn and I was happy to be a member. I reinstated my membership this past fall and was excited to return as a patron. I've seen a lot of great films and the festival was well curated but more recently, Hot Docs has sadly gone downhill.

Just last week, I found out they are closing the theatre for 3 months but only because I saw it posted on LinkedIn. They didn't email me as a member and I had to investigate the fate of my membership further (put on hold apparently). I wonder if other members even realize this is happening. (I don't think you should have to subscribe to a newsletter to get this update if you are a paying member). And despite my membership listing online movies as an option, the service was discontinued quietly at the end of last year.

I'd like to support local creative initiatives in my city but am disappointed in how they failed to properly inform their patrons and offer transparency on operating changes. I am hopeful things this fall will be better when...
