DO NOT COME HERE.
First, the manager gave my dairy free gluten intolerant partner the wrong dish (cheese salmon roll instead of the salmon + tuna gluten free roll). This is not a big problem. But when I asked for a new serving, they went to the back and just removed the cheese (the cheese was still on the rice). The sushi was all mangled because they had literally just dug out the cheese.
Second, there were tempura bits on the salmon avocado roll which we confirmed to be gluten free. We asked about it and the manager then told us THIS WAS CUT ON THE SAME BOARD AS TEMPURA. WHICH HAS GLUTEN.
As anyone else who had already spent over $60 on a meal would do, I asked for a new dish for my partner again. And when I was comforting my incredibly distressed partner (imagine eating something you’re ALLERGIC to, twice!) the manager then came back to yell at us, telling us that it wasn’t a big deal and it was fine. This was after I had explained repeatedly my partner will get extremely sick due to gluten.
Then the owner proceeded to complain about us loudly to her staff in Korean. Fun fact it is not actually difficult to recognize that you are being cussed out and insulted in Korean, especially if you know the language :) This woman was also extremely defensive and did not apologize to us even once, and instead kept dismissing our literal health concerns.
This was a horrible experience because not only did not a single one of my partner’s meals arrive as it should, we now have to worry about being sick on top of the horrible treatment by someone who clearly hates her job and should leave customer service.
TLDR: worst experience of my life, endangered my partner’s health, do not come here.
To the manager: Girl this meal was $65 and it was such a waste of money. Given how rude you were in our brief interactions, you’d lose your mind if you were treated the way you treated us. And I sincerely hope you are, because you...
Read moreVery unwelcoming, poor quality food. This was my second time here. The first time wasn't too great either, but I like to give businesses at least 2-3 chances. As soon as I walked in the woman was acting as if I was bothering her. No hello, nothing. What do you want? Huh? I ordered via uber eats. There was only one order there, the place was empty. She was afraid to give it to me for some reason. Then proceeded to scold me how I shouldn't order on Uber eats, but order through her QR code. I was treating myself to lunch, paid 45 for a tiny tray of fish (which wasn't well prepared or fresh), and told me that they only make $10 out of it via uber eats. I find that hard to believe. If you don't want people to order on uber eats, don't put your business there. And if you do, don't scold customers for using it. If you want to kindly direct people to try another method next time, you let them know kindly. I paid $45 for cold, very rubbery sashimi. Looked nothing like the picture. Was basically hacked at and thrown on a plate. No flavour. It's amazing what businesses think they can get away with. Far better sushi and other small independent businesses to support around here.
The first time I went in person, and it didn't feel great to be there (I wanted to stay but she didn't seem to want me there), so this time I used the app so I could just pick up and go. Still had to encounter her shitty attitude. You can't have low quality food, awful customer service, AND at...
Read moreI want to start off by saying I love Kibo Sushi. The St. Claire location is one of my favourite Sushi restaurants in all of Toronto.
When Kibo on Lakeshore opened up I was extremely excited seeing as how it’s in my backyard! Unfortunately, I was let down.
I came here for dinner with my S/O.
The location is very small and pretty rundown, but it’s a brand new location so to me this makes sense. It takes time for renovations and what not, no big deal.
There was one server and it wasn’t bad service just not particularly good either. The service did seem to cater more towards phone orders like some of these other reviews mention, but I didn’t find the service terrible. Could’ve been a bit better.
We did receive two miso soups on the house which was a nice gesture. The soup was pretty standard as far as miso soup goes.
My biggest disappointment was the food. For some reason the food quality was lacking compared to other Kibo locations. The rolls were not particularly pretty, poorly plated and were sort of falling apart. My S/O ordered the torched Sushi and wasn’t torched at all. Kibo really stands out for me when it comes to presentation, but this Lakeshore location didn’t get the memo apparently. Honestly the rolls were not very good either.
Pretty disappointed with this location so far, there are superior sushi restaurants in the area. I’m excited to see this location improve and be up to par with the other Kibo restaurants. Until then, I’d...
