Thursday, June 17, 2021 Ordered for the first time today through Skip the Dishes. My 82 year-old aunt had ordered from here once before and was quite impressed. She had carrot/ginger soup, lamb curry with rice and onion rings. She doesn't normally like onions no matter how they're served but, these ones she liked. Thought I'd give the place a try.
Ordered the jambalaya with rice - and yes, you guessed it, onion rings.
Portion size was good. The jambalaya had a nice kick to it and there was no shortage of chicken, shrimp or sausage.
It was all the same brownish-red color so it was hard to distinguish one protein from the other, although once you had a piece in your mouth it was easy - the shrimp still had the tails on and the sausage pieces were still in their casing, No problem. Just chew it up and spit it out - certainly can't swallow it.
I was a bit confused, though. The order came with naan (Indian bread) and I don't know why since the roots of jambalaya are West African, Spanish and French.
The onion rings were just that - onion rings. I should have realized that they would probably arrive soggy, which is what they were. Nothing special there.
Tasty overall. Worth trying at least...
Read moreI wish the owner of this place would change his hours. I love the food here but trying to order from them is a headache.
I ordered from Skip the Dishes and had to call the place after 20 minutes of no one confirming the order. The guy said he would accept. I wait 15 minutes to try again. Nothing. I wait another 10 minutes before I call him back. He says again he will accept it. I wait 15 minutes and then the restaurant disappears from the site. If he didn't want to accomodate the order then he should have said that, instead of wasting my time telling me he will accept it and then going offline. Skip the Dishes had to refund my order
Good food but horrible customer service. This has since happened 3 different times. I will no longer attempt to ever order...

This resto has a large menu, there is something for everyone. However, not everything on their menu is awesome but it's all affordable and good.
My family prefers the curry meals, I don't know of a better $12 meal in East York. The burgers and sandwiches are all pretty good, the wings are okay but cheap. As per some other reviews here, I don't recommend carbonara. Stick to the curries and the pub food and you are in good hands.
The owner is friendly and I have never ever had a service issue here, and have been spending money here for years. It's just a plain old neighbourhood pub which can fulfill your family's varied tastes at...
