Having lived in the L'Amoreaux area for over 10 years, I've never noticed this small (and somewhat hidden) Chinese/Cantonese Barbeque (BBQ) take-out place located at the small plaza on the Northwest corner of Birchmount Rd. and Finch Ave. E. I had a quick chat with the owner and apparently they've been there for about 30 years, which is incredible for a restaurant in Toronto.
I myself only found out about the place through word of mouth, through a friend that recommended it after I mentioned a Chinese BBQ craving (BBQ Duck, BBQ Pork, Roasted Pork, BBQ Chicken, etc.).
I suppose it's one of those restaurant gems that the local Cantonese community keeps hush-hush about, especially because they run only limited quantities of BBQ per day. By time I arrived at the restaurant at 6:30pm last night, they were already on their last servings of BBQ. So, I would recommend to get there around earlier dinner time or lunch time to get the best cuts and quantities -- likely sometime 4 to 5 pm would be good for Dinner.
Keeping in mind that this is mainly a take-out place, the staff that work there were friendly nice. I didn't have any issues with ordering or having them help me figure out what dishes were best to order i.e. different combinations of BBQ and rice vs noodle options.
I was surprised to know that the combo dishes were very reasonably priced. All ran me about $8-$12 each for a total of just over $30 after tax.
I ordered 3 combos (which are shown in photos):
All dishes came with a side of veggies (Gai Lan) and a traditional Chinese soup! What's great about the soup is that they mentioned it is all home made and does not contain any MSG.
Overall, the quality of the BBQ meat was very good. It was juicy and not dry unlike some other places. The traditional Chinese soup was tasty and healthy which was a nice touch.
In short, I would certainly come here again. Great quality BBQ at...
Read moreWe used to get duck from this place all the time. Starting this year, the quality has gone downhill—badly. The duck came with feathers, big and small, still clearly on the skin. That’s basic prep work they couldn’t even bother to do right. We gave them a chance to fix it, said it directly to the owner. However the solution gaven was just excuses and blame-shifting. Sadly, they clearly don’t care anymore. Neither do we. If this is what they call “acceptable,” then they’ve clearly forgotten what made people come here in the...
Read moreI’ve been to this place many times, and it never disappoints! Their Peking roast duck is absolutely delicious—crispy skin, tender meat, and very reasonably priced. I also love taking the leftover duck bones home to make a rich and flavorful noodle soup.
The owner is incredibly friendly and welcoming. Every visit feels like catching up with an old friend, and chatting with her always brightens my day.
Highly recommend this...
