Disappointing Experience :
We recently visited Madurai Pandiyas Restaurant with high expectations, but unfortunately, my experience was marred by poor service, favoritism, and a lack of attention to customers.
Upon arrival, (we already had a reservation) we were told to wait for 5 minutes which ended up being a 20 min wait, while other parties who arrived after us were seated first. The reason given was that they were short-staffed, but this excuse doesn't justify the poor service.
The waiter was too busy with an ad shoot, which seemed to take priority over customers to the point where he was even avoiding eye contact with any customer. We faced a long wait for our food, and even then, items were missing from our unlimited meal package. When I asked for papad, it took over 15 minutes to arrive, and by then, I had already finished my meal.
The food itself was average and nothing extraordinary, which made the experience even more disappointing given the poor service.
To make matters worse, the ad shoot participants and another party who were the owner's friends, received preferential treatment, while paying customers like us were neglected. When I brought this to the waiter's attention, he casually mentioned that they were understaffed, without apologizing or offering a solution.
We ordered one veg and one non veg meals which they clearly paid no attention to and just served whatever. BEWARE!!! if you have any allergies they are not going to pay attention when serving.
The final straw was waiting an additional 10 minutes for the check, which we eventually had to collect ourselves from the counter.
When I brought the poor service to the waiter's attention, she didn't apologize or offer a solution. Instead, she tried to bribe us with a discount, hoping to sweep the issues under the rug. This approach only added to our frustration, as it showed that the restaurant was more interested in saving face than in genuinely addressing our concerns.
The discount offer felt like a token gesture, rather than a sincere attempt to make things right. It's essential for restaurants to listen to customer feedback, acknowledge mistakes, and take concrete steps to improve service.
To improve, I suggest:
Better training for staff on attentive service and communication Establishing clear service standards and accountability Reviewing staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage during peak periods Scheduling ad shoots during non-peak hours or closing temporarily to minimize disruptions Prioritizing customer satisfaction over promotional activities Empowering staff to apologize and offer genuine solutions when issues arise, rather than resorting to token gestures.
Don’t be deceived by flashy pictures and promotions on social media it’s too far from reality.
Until these issues are addressed, I would caution others against visiting Madurai Pandiyas Restaurant during peak hours or when ad shoots...
Read moreThis is a dream palace for all food lovers who want to taste authentic Madurai dishes. We've been living in this country for more than five years now. During this time, we have tried multiple restaurants, hotels, and cuisines in various places like Milton, Kitchener, Waterloo, Niagara, Toronto, Scarborough, London, Windsor, and Detroit. Each restaurant usually has one or two special items, while the remaining dishes are of average taste. However, Madurai Pandiyas exceeded expectations with every dish we had today. Special thanks to our friend who referred us to this place.
The menu we had today:
Eral Varuval – 20 out of 10. (The shrimp was incredibly soft, paired perfectly with the crunchy onion gravy.) Must try!
Dragon Chicken – 20 out of 10. (Huge quantity, delicious taste, blended with cashews and fresh salads.)
Madurai Seeraga Samba Mutton Biryani – 20 out of 10. (All Seeraga Samba biryani lovers must try it! Served with salna, onion raita, and brinjal curry. Most other restaurants we’ve tried so far provided a maximum of two sides only, but here it was exceptional.)
Bun Parotta – 20 out of 10. (So soft and reminiscent of Madurai roadside bun parotta. Tried it with salna.)
Chilli Parotta – 20 out of 10. (Served with finely grated cheese resembling snowflakes on top. Generous quantity.)
Chicken Tikka – 20 out of 10. (Wow. Mouth-watering! It melted like ice cream.)
Egg Kothu Parotta – 20 out of 10.
Jigarthanda – 100 out of 10. (For those wondering what Jigarthanda is, just try it, and you’ll understand why Madurai is called the food capital of Tamil Nadu. Not only is it delicious, but it’s healthy too!)
People always say that Maduraians are born to eat. Yes, I proudly accept this fact. Whenever a new restaurant opens in the city, we are usually the first ones to try it, regardless of the cuisine. That’s why you’ll see international cuisines thriving profitably in Madurai.
For the past five years, we’ve felt like we were living far away from home. But Madurai Pandiyas broke that feeling today. It felt like being back in our hometown.
Note:
We called the head chef to personally appreciate the time, hard work, and dedication they put into ensuring every dish satisfied us. Maintaining such high standards is challenging nowadays, and I truly hope they continue to maintain this quality of food and service in the future. I wish them great success and hope they expand by opening multiple branches across Ontario and other provinces.
Finally, are you from Madurai, or are you a lover of South Indian food? I highly recommend this...
Read morePlease read this review in full before deciding to visit this restaurant. I went to the restaurant for the first time today around 2:15 pm—choosing it over Namma Madurai based on its Google reviews—and my experience has been extremely disappointing. When we arrived, the restaurant was relatively empty, yet no one greeted or welcomed us. Eventually, a female staff member directed us to an unreserved seating area and then left. We waited about 15–25 minutes before finally placing our order. We ordered the following: 1 Mutton Madurai Seeraga Samba Briyani 1 order of Mutton Chops 1 Chicken Varuthakari (with a Chicken Appetizer) Bun Parota and Regular Parota I noticed that several other customers had been waiting for nearly half an hour—some even canceled their orders due to the long delays. Chicken Appetizer: This dish arrived after a 30–40 minute wait. The preparation involved simply sautéing onions and curry leaves, then reheating cold chicken in masala. While the masala tasted good, the overall preparation felt run-of-the-mill. Mutton Chops: These were served after about 40–45 minutes. The chops were semi-cooked and quite tough, which was disappointing. Parota: The parota was below average—hard and difficult to chew. Mutton Briyani: This is where the major issue lies. Unlike other tables that received their briyani within a reasonable time, our order was delayed for over an hour. I repeatedly asked a staff member about our mutton briyani. Despite assurances that “it’s coming,” I had to raise my voice as my family, including my 8-year-old son, was growing increasingly hungry. When the dish finally arrived, I was shocked to find that the mutton had merely been boiled separately and then mixed into plain rice. Upon asking for clarification, the staff refused to taste the dish and quickly took it back to the kitchen. They later admitted that the restaurant had run out of its standard mutton briyani and had substituted boiled mutton pieces in plain briyani—a practice that feels both deceptive and unacceptable, especially for a restaurant known for quality Madurai cuisine. After nearly 2 hours of waiting and having traveled almost 70 kilometers for a promising meal, my family and I left extremely disappointed. The repeated apologies felt insincere, and the overall experience was far below expectations. I strongly advise others to avoid this restaurant until they can address these serious issues of service and food quality. I am posting this review for awareness and welcome anyone who has experienced similar issues to share...
